Joshua shrugged. “That’s capitalism for you—profits above all else. This oil tycoon brings in so much revenue for Solmaris every year; the government’s terrified of crossing him. They practically bow and scrape to his entire family.”

Abby’s voice shook with anger. “It’s sick. No wonder people like the Williams family and the Lerman family thrive here. This place is a playground for the worst of the worst.”

Joshua’s lips curved into a sly, enigmatic smile. “Want to see them turn on each other?”

Abby’s eyes lit up. “Absolutely! People like him deserve to rot. If we don’t take these monsters down, humanity owes itself an apology. And if we could seize whatever he uses to commit his crimes, that’d be even better!”

Joshua turned his head, glancing at Stella. “Star, what do you think?”

Stella nodded. “Someone like that? Do whatever you want. If anything happens, I’ll take the heat.”

With Stella’s approval, Joshua slammed his foot on the gas.

Joshua didn’t hesitate. “A couple of days ago, Neville sent Star a dossier with names to watch out for. Since I’m the bodyguard, it’s my job to memorize dangerous individuals. So, I did.”

Stella immediately remembered. Neville had called while Joshua was with her, and he’d asked if he could look at the files first. There was nothing classified in them, so she’d agreed.

Abby’s face cleared with understanding. “Oh, so when you were up late these past few nights, you were memorizing that stuff? Joshua, you really go the extra mile.”

A pang of guilt flickered through Stella’s heart. She’d been busy sightseeing with Foreman, barely glancing at the dossier. Yet Joshua had stayed up late and gone through the entire thing.

Joshua shook his head. “Those files? Just looked them over in my spare time. It doesn’t take all night to memorize a few names.”

Abby blinked, surprised. “Then what were you doing up so late?”

Joshua’s eyes darkened, a hint of steel in his voice. “Gathering evidence, of course. Didn’t I say? I’m going to find proof that Leonard kidnapped Star.”
