These past three years, the worst pain for Shaun wasn’t physical-it was emotional. All this time, he had believed that Halsey

had abandoned him.

But she hadn’t.

Shaun looked at her. “So… You and Gilbert were never together?”

Halsey laughed. “You really thought I dated him?”

Shaun nodded. “I mean, if we don’t talk about his personality, Gilbert’s actually not a bad choice. He’s handsome, rich, and ambitious, and you were once engaged to him. How was I supposed to know you didn’t fall for him at some point?”

Halsey could hear the jealousy in his voice, so she teased him on purpose. “Now that you mention it, Mr. Lane, Gilbert is pretty decent. Lots of rich girls in our circle liked him. I mean, he and I did—”

Before she could finish, Shaun reached out and covered her mouth. “Stop. Don’t say another word.”

He didn’t want to hear it.

Halsey gently pulled his hand away. Under the soft glow of the light, her almond-shaped eyes sparkled beautifully.

“No, I want to say it. Gilbert might look like a good guy, but there’s nothing between us. Yes, our families had an engagement arranged, and yes, he once tricked me into trusting him. But once I saw his true colors, I walked away. And then I met you.

“To me, no matter how great Gilbert might seem, he’ll never compare to you. You’re better looking, and now you’re making waves in the business world. I must’ve been blind to ever like him.”

Shaun had been full of jealousy just a moment ago, but now, she had completely won him over. “Are you serious? You really mean that?”

“I swear,” Halsey said. “I meant every word.”

Then she leaned in and kissed him lightly on the lips. “I love you.”

Shaun wrapped his arms around her, no longer holding back. He pulled her into a deep kiss.

They fell back onto the bed. Feeling his growing passion, Halsey gently pushed against him, blushing. “Careful. The baby.”

Shaun grinned. “He’s already six months along. The doctor said that as long as we’re not doing anything too intense, it’s fine.”

Halsey’s small face turned even redder. “What are you trying to do?”

Shaun smirked. “I don’t know… What do you think I’m trying to do?”

Halsey gave him a playful glare.

“Aren’t you planning to marry me yet?” he asked.

“I’ll have to think about it,” she replied with a smile.

“Great. You think about that, and I’ll just do my thing.”

Shaun pushed her down again.

Laughing, Halsey tried to wiggle away. “You’re seriously getting more and more shameless!”

Later that night, Halsey lay curled up in Shaun’s arms. He kissed her forehead gently. “Did I hurt you?”
