Samuel nodded, respecting Wendy’s decision. Bella was Wendy’s daughter, the child she had fought so hard to bring into the world. Wendy had every right to make that choice.

“You go to the Capital. I’ll take care of Bella.”

“Really?”

“Of course. Why? Don’t you trust me?” With that, Samuel called, “Bella, come here.”

Bella immediately ran over, her little hands and feet a blur. She jumped into Samuel’s arms. “Daddy Sam, why did you call for me?”

Samuel kissed her on the cheek. “Your mommy has to go on a business trip for a few days. Will you stay with me and play while she’s gone?”

Bella looked up at Wendy. “Mommy, are you going far away?”

Wendy nodded. “Yes, I am.”

“Then can I go with you? I want to be with you.”

Bella wanted to go with Wendy to the Capital.

Wendy smiled softly. “I’m going there for work, so I won’t have time to take you. I’ll only be gone for a few days, but I’ll be back really soon. You stay and have fun with Daddy Sam, okay? I’ll video chat with you every day.”

Bella nodded. “Okay…”
