Chapter 899

Shaun couldn’t believe that Madeline wanted to stick with the Halsey and ditch him. He paused from washing the dishes, wondering if he was even her real brother.

Then, he glanced at Madeline. “What if I didn’t do anything wrong? What if Halsey’s the one who messed up?”

“No way! She’s always right!” Madeline insisted.

Shaun could only laugh dryly. He finally understood that Madeline was totally biased.

“Just hurry up and win Halsey back, or else!”

With that, Madeline turned and went back to her room.

Shaun looked down at the dish in his hand, completely speechless.

Halsey stayed with Madeline for the rest of the day. While Madeline worked on a research diagram, Halsey focused on her fashion designs. She listened carefully to the sounds outside.

After Shaun finished the dishes, he left-most likely for the office. He was incredibly busy these days.

Later that afternoon, a few of Madeline’s female classmates dropped by. They were all close friends from her research institute, stopping in to check on her.

Everyone gathered in the living room. Madeline hooked her arm around Halsey’s and said with a smile, “Let me introduce you all-this is Halsey.”

The girls lit up immediately. “Hi, Halsey! You’re so pretty!”

“We’ve heard Maddy mention you so many times. I didn’t expect you to be this gorgeous!”

Halsey smiled. “Thank you. That’s really sweet.

Just then, the door opened, and Shaun walked in carrying several large shopping bags. He had stopped by the office, then picked up groceries and some daily essentials on his way back.

The moment the girls saw Shaun, their eyes practically sparkled. One of them tugged on Madeline’s arm, whispering excitedly, “Maddy, who’s the tall, hot guy?”

Madeline laughed. “That’s Shaun, my brother. Shaun, these are my friends.”

Shaun gave them a polite nod, his cool eyes flicking over the group briefly. Then he headed to the kitchen and began unloading the bags into the fridge.

The girls couldn’t stop staring. They didn’t even blink.

“Your brother is so handsome.”

“He can cook too? Good-looking and knows his way around a kitchen-he’s perfect!”

Pleased by the praise, Madeline beamed. “Shaun can do everything. His cooking’s amazing. Right, Halsey?”

She didn’t miss the chance to praise Shaun in front of Halsey.

Halsey curved her lips into a soft smile and nodded. “Yeah, he’s a great cook.”

One of the girls, Geneva Tate, was especially striking-young, beautiful, easily the most attractive of the bunch. Her eyes were practically glued to Shaun the moment she saw him.

She couldn’t suppress her curiosity and asked Madeline, “What does your brother do?”

Madeline replied, “He’s the CEO of a company.”

“Wow!”

The girls started gushing again.

“He’s so cool!”

“Well, of course! Just look at who his sister is. If Maddy’s this smart and talented, her brother’s got to be something else too!”

Laughter filled the room as the girls chatted and giggled together.

Watching them, Halsey was suddenly reminded of her college days. She used to be just like them-young, innocent, not yet hardened by the world. Back then, she had met Shaun.

All of a sudden, a wave of nausea hit her. She felt the sour bile creep up her throat and realized she was going to be sick again.

Not wanting anyone to notice, she quickly stood up. “I need to use the restroom.”

Madeline nodded. “Okay.”

Halsey hurried into the bathroom, bent over, and threw up.
