Chapter 916

Shaun watched Halsey’s expression with interest while saying into the phone, “Why did you call?”

On the phone, Chelsea’s voice turned sharp with urgency. “Please wake up, Shaun. Ms. Mallin is nothing but a vixen! She’s trying to seduce you.”

Halsey’s face froze.

That wasn’t nice. Besides, she hadn’t seduced Shaun-he was the one who had forced himself on her.

Halsey looked up and shot Shaun a fierce glare.

Shaun met her eyes. Halsey had just woken up, her silky black hair spilling over her shoulders in soft waves. She was only wearing a thin camisole, her fair skin exposed to the morning light. Her delicate face was tilted up, and her wide, watery eyes glared at him in silent protest, filled with frustration and just a hint of shame.

Desire sparked in Shaun again. He leaned down and kissed her without hesitation.

“Ah!” Halsey gasped in shock. Her eyes widened in disbelief. He was still on the phone with Chelsea-how could he kiss her like this?

Her voice carried right through the speaker.

Chelsea’s breath hitched, and her voice rose. “What was that sound? Was that Halsey? Are you still with her right now?!”

Halsey struggled, pounding against his chest in a panic, trying to push him away.

But Shaun kissed her harder, rough and intense, like he wanted to devour her.

Halsey had no choice-she opened her mouth and bit him on the corner of his lip.

Shaun grunted in pain.

She took the chance and shoved him off, flinging the blanket aside as she jumped out of bed and bolted from the room.

She was gone.

Shaun touched the corner of his mouth. It was bleeding.

She had actually made him bleed.

That wild little kitten.

Chelsea’s voice kept going on the other end. “Are you even listening to me? Hello?”

The warmth in Shaun’s eyes vanished, replaced with a cold, distant expression. He parted his lips and said flatly, “You’re crossing a line. We’re just friends.”

There was a pause on the other end.

Shaun held the phone firmly. “I’ve made myself clear. I don’t have those kinds of feelings for you. You already know who I care about. If this happens again, we won’t even be friends.”

Chelsea scrambled to explain. “I can explain! I’m sorry. I just panicked. I don’t want you getting tricked by Ms. Mallin again…”

Shaun didn’t want to hear it. Of course, he knew all that. He knew better than anyone that he shouldn’t fall for Halsey again.

But the second she stood in front of him, he wanted her. He couldn’t control it.

Without another word, Shaun hung up.

Halsey rushed out of the room just as Madeline stepped into the hallway. She blinked in surprise. “Hey, Halsey.”

Halsey quickly pulled herself together, not wanting Madeline to notice anything. “Morning, Maddy.”

Madeline gave her a suspicious look. “Why do you look like you just got out of bed?”

“I…” Halsey opened her mouth, but didn’t know what to say.

Just then, the door behind them opened with a soft click, and Shaun walked out.

Madeline turned to him and frowned. “What happened to your lip?”

Shaun glanced lazily at Halsey and replied, “Oh, I got bitten by a little wildcat.”

Madeline stared at him. “A wildcat? In the house? One that goes for your lips?”

Shaun poured himself a glass of water and took a slow sip before answering with a smirk, ‘Maybe it was a naughty little kitty who had her eye on me and just couldn’t resist taking a bite.”
