Patricia's face turned pale as a ghost, but she still cast a wary glance downward.

Wendy smirked, "What are you scared of, Patricia? You had the guts to do it, but not to own it?"

Wendy was still fuming over the whole debacle.

Back in the day, Patricia was her college buddy, and when she showed up with a baby bump and nowhere to go, Wendy opened up her home to her. She took care of her right through childbirth.

Wendy had met Patricia during a part-time job in college, and they'd quickly become close friends. But Wendy didn't know much about Patricia's family situation, only that she was hustling alone in the city.

So when Patricia vanished, Wendy had no clue where to even start looking for her. She could only follow her friend's wishes and hand the baby over.

Facing Wendy's sarcasm, Patricia's face flushed with embarrassment, but she bit her tongue and quietly asked, "So, did you give the baby back to her father?"

"What else could I do? Did you expect me, a single woman, to raise your child?" Wendy retorted with a cold laugh. "Patricia, you really have some nerve. You were so scared of people finding out you'd had a kid that you just dumped the baby on me. Did I owe you something, or did I cross you somehow? Weren't you afraid I'd spill the beans and let everyone know what happened?"

Patricia pressed her lips together, her face a mix of shame and frustration, but she didn't dare lash out.

"Look, Wendy, I was wrong back then, and I'm sorry. I was really desperate. The baby's dad wouldn't leave his wife, and my family couldn't help me. I couldn't raise the child on my own, but I couldn't bear to abandon her, so I asked you to give her to her father. I had no other choice." Patricia apologized softly.

Wendy let out another cold chuckle, clearly skeptical of her story.

Just like when Patricia had sworn she was tricked into being a mistress, only for Wendy to rush to her defense and end up with egg on her face.

"Wendy, I just want to know where the child ended up. Did you really give her back to her father?" Patricia's voice was low, tinged with a pleading desperation.

Wendy glanced at her, unwilling to waste more time on this, and nodded. "Yeah, I gave her to her dad."

"But I had someone look into it, and the father never had a daughter with him. Just a son," Patricia said, which was the reason she had to track Wendy down.

Wendy was taken aback, glancing at Patricia in surprise. "No way. I handed the baby over to that jerk myself."

Patricia furrowed her brow, watching Wendy intently, not missing a single expression.

"Did he give the child away?" Wendy asked Patricia, considering the possibility.
