Stella didn’t get out of the car right away. “I’m going with you.”

“Go where? Go home!” Marie snapped. “You think I’ve got the patience to look after you right now?”

She was about to go after Dan-and when she did, she’d go all in. If this had been before, she might’ve brought Stella along to let her see it for herself.

But not anymore. Stella was pregnant now. If something happened to the baby, the entire family would tear Marie apart-forget Dan.

Stella said, “I don’t feel good letting you go alone. Take people with you.”

Even the phone call she made this morning had been surprising.

Abraham wouldn’t know what had happened last night.

“What happened?” he asked.

“I think… it’s got something to do with Dan…” Stella told him everything-what had happened last night, what she and Marie had investigated, and now how Marie was going to confront Dan herself.

“I’m worried,” she added, “so I was hoping you’d send someone to follow her. She said she’d bring people, but in this state? She’s not thinking straight.”

Derrick shot him a dangerous glare. “So what, you want me to live as a coward for the rest of my life?”
