The next few weeks were very dull and painful. My whole family was buried together. My Uncle Rick's family came to live with me. Every day I went to the graveyard and wept for them. I felt very alone in my house. My uncle Rick's family consisted of her wife Ella and their 20-year-old daughter Olivia. They were kind to me but still, I missed my wonderful family. Once I thought,'How sad it is. We always take some things for granted but when they are snatched away from us we came to know that they were the most precious things.’
I was pulled away from my thoughts when a knock came on the door.
“Come in.” I said. Olivia came in and sat beside me. I sat staring at the floor.
“Mavon. Look at me,” she said with authority. I looked at her face. She had a very fair complexion like her father and unlike her mother. She had brown eyes and dark hair. She was beautiful but not as beautiful as Sarah. I stared in her eyes.
“You have to come out of your grief. There is a whole life waiting ahead of you,” she said soothingly. I nodded.
“Come, lunch is ready.” she smiled. She took my hand and led me to the kitchen. There my uncle and aunt sat. I sat beside Olivia. We ate lunch silently. Olivia tried to talk with me but I was wandering in another world. I went into my bedroom and lay there lifelessly. Sometimes I thought to do suicide but a voice inside me always convinced me against it.
“I really miss you, Sarah.” I whispered with my eyes brimming with tears.
“I miss you too.” someone said. I turned and found Sarah lying beside me. She was in her usual pink top and shorts. Her body was transparent and it glowed. I rubbed my eyes but still, she was there.
I jumped at her for hugging her but she deformed like a cloud of smoke and reformed standing against the wall.
“I have no physical body little brother,” she said sadly.
“Are you really here?” I asked.
“Yes and no. My one half is in another world with our parents and my other half is here for wishing you goodbye,” she said.
“It means you still exist,” I said.
“Yes. We exist in the world of the dead waiting for you.” she grinned.
“So, if I commit suicide I can be with you now?” I asked happily.
“No.” she looked worried, “It doesn't work like that. The suicide doers are banished from the afterlife and they stop existing.”
“That doesn't make any sense.” I growled in frustration. She smiled sadly and shrugged.
“So why are you here?” I asked.
