Chapter 410
“How did the surgery do?”
“The operation was a success, but the injuries were severs. He’s still in critical condition.”
Ivy didn’t respond, just pushed herself upright and ficked on the lamp
“What are you doing?”
She beckoned to him with the air of a mother scolding a child. “Turn around Let me take a look at you”
Jamison knew exactly what she meant. He chuckled helplessly, but
obliged–shrugging off his pajama top and turning his back to her.
On his left shoulder blade, the ten–centimeter scar had mostly healed Still, the dark, raised scab stood out against the strong lines of his back, jarringly out of place and enough to make anyone’s heart ache.
Relieved to see the wound was healing, Ivy let out a breath. “Alright. Get some sleep.”
But Jamison’s thoughts drifted elsewhere. He lay back down, pulling her straight into his arms, his lips brushing along her cheek, his voice low and rough with want. “You’ve already got my shirt off. Shouldn’t we take advantage of the situation?”
Ivy’s eyelids were heavy with fatigue, She shot him a look. “In your dreams.” Jamison just laughed and kissed her anyway, pressing her close.
He could still hear his colleagues‘ teasing back at the hospital–newlyweds who can look but can’t touch. It was torture.
He kissed her again, holding her tighter, his breath warm and teasing against her ear. “Ivy… my injury’s fine. Why don’t we give it a try tonight? Hm?”
She could feel how much he wanted her, and wondered how a quick trip out in the middle of the night had turned him into a different person. She didn’t really mind, but it was four, maybe five in the morning–the sleepiest, laziest hour. S didn’t have the energy for his antics.

“Jamison… aren’t you tired? It’s not like I’m running away tomorrow. Can’t you wait one more day?” Her voice was muffled from within his arms, soft and pleading, like a kitten trying to win a little mercy.

Jamison sighed, resigned. He knew she wasn’t in the best shape, and sex took energy. Better to wait for the right time.
“Yeah, I’m being impatient.” He apologized quietly, resting his handsome face against her chest. After a long pause, he finally let her go. “No more pestering. Let’s sleep.”
The next morning.
They didn’t wake until nearly ten.
Jamison grabbed his phone and checked the time, startled, then tossed off the covers and got up.
Ivy was still groggy, rolled over and burrowed back under the blankets, already drifting off again.
He glanced at her fondly, then slipped out with his phone to call the hospital and check on last night’s patient.
A few minutes later, he returned to the bedroom.
“Ivy… Ivy?” He gently nudged her shoulder, calling softly.
She didn’t want to move, voice muffled and sleepy. “What is it…”
“I have to go back to the hospital. What are your plans for today?”
She rolled over to look at him, instantly understanding. “Is it that patient from last night?”
“Yeah. He’s still not out of the woods. I want to check on him.”
“Go ahead,” she said. “I don’t have any real plans. I’ll probably pack up my things
this afternoon.”
School was starting in a couple days, and she still hadn’t organized her stuff. There were plenty of things she needed to buy, too.
Just thinking about her returning to campus and moving into the dorms made Jamison a little uneasy. But arguing about it wouldn’t change anything.
After a moment’s thought, he suggested, “Since you don’t have anything planned, why don’t you come to the hospital with me? Once I’m done, I’ll take you to see a doctor.”
“What doctor?” She looked at him, confused.
