He nodded. “Yes.”

Professor Penn looked at her student and couldn’t help but add, “Jamison’s wife is quite beautiful, you know. He’s always had high standards, and it looks like he finally found someone who met them.”

Celeste stared at him, momentarily at a loss for words. After hesitating for a couple of seconds, she managed, “Anyone Jamison chooses must be remarkable.” Jamison, without a hint of modesty, replied, “She is. She’s truly exceptional.”

Just then, Jamison’s phone rang. He excused himself and stepped outside to take

the call.

Celeste stood there, dazed, not even responding when Professor Penn called her

name.

“Celeste!” Professor Penn raised her voice, finally snapping Celeste out of her trance. She quickly replied, “Yes, Ms. Penn?”

“Stop staring. He’s not yours, no matter how long you wait,” Professor Penn said bluntly.

Celeste hesitated, then lowered her voice. “Ms. Penn, do you know what Jamison’s wife is sick with?”

“That’s none of your business. Just focus on your own responsibilities.”

“I’m just… concerned, that’s all.”

Professor Penn sighed, shaking her head. “Stop dreaming, Celeste. Set your sights elsewhere. There are plenty of talented young men out there–go meet some of them.”

Celeste’s expression fell, her voice tinged with bitterness. “I wish I could… but no one can compare to Jamison. At least, no one I’ve ever met comes close.”

Out in the hallway, Jamison finished his call with home. As he turned around, he saw Ivy returning with a nurse.

“All done with your tests?” he asked, reaching out to take her hand.

Ivy looked indifferent and ignored his gesture, even brushing his hand away to signal she wasn’t in the mood for such affection.

Jamison ignored her resistance. When she got closer, he simply took her hand anyway. “I asked you a question–cat got your tongue?”

“I don’t feel like talking. Don’t push me,” Ivy replied coolly.

Jamison’s face darkened. “What’s wrong? Did the results not look good?”

He glanced at the nurse beside Ivy for answers.

The nurse replied, “Dr. Ludwig, the electronic report’s already been sent over to Dr. Penn. You should ask her directly.”

Jaw set, Jamison tightened his grip on Ivy’s hand and led her back to Professor Penn’s office.
