Chapter 531
Ivy nodded, quietly accepting the gesture, then asked, “Did you record or film meeting with her yesterday?”
your
“No,” Roberta shook her head, her voice honest and subdued. “The first time that guy approached me, it caught me completely off guard. I never imagined it would be about something like this. Then yesterday, that woman showed up out of nowhere. I did think about secretly recording her, but as soon as I reached for my phone, she noticed. So I never managed to get anything.”
Ivy listened in silence, saying nothing as she pulled out her phone and started searching online.
Emma and Micah’s scandal had stirred up quite the storm a while back, and there had been plenty of gossip floating around on the internet. It only took a quick search to find something.
“Here, is this the woman?” Ivy turned the phone toward Roberta.
Roberta stepped closer, studying the screen carefully before nodding several times. “Yes, that’s her. Even with the hat and sunglasses, I recognize her face and mouth.” Ivy pulled her phone back, taking a slow, steadying breath.
It looked like Jamison had been right to keep people watching Emma. That had
been a smart move.
Emma had gotten out of holding yesterday, and the very first thing she’d done was find Roberta–trying to figure out whether she’d gone through with the poisoning. At that point, none of them had known Emma was out, which had given her the perfect opportunity.
Fortunately, Roberta had come to her senses at the last moment.
“If you two know each other, can’t you just settle this? I mean, it’s hard to believe anyone in this day and age would actually hire someone to kill,” Roberta said, letting out a heavy sigh. She looked lighter now, having confessed her part in everything, even a little righteously indignant.
Ivy gave a faint, almost bitter smile. “There’s no way to make peace. She’s wanted me dead for a long time this isn’t the first or even the second time. And that man is her accomplice.”
Roberta’s eyes widened, shocked. “Didn’t you go to the police?”
Chapter 5315
“No evidence. How could they arrest her? Same goes for what you did to me–without proof, the police can’t do anything.”
Still, with Sheridan behind bars now, Emma had lost her best ally. Alone and pregnant, she’d have to think twice before causing more trouble.
Roberta’s face went red with embarrassment. She lowered her head, her guilt obvious. “I’m sorry.”
Ivy didn’t respond to the apology.
Her feelings were a tangled mess. She never expected Emma would go so far as to reach into her school life, or even place someone right by her side.
Thinking it over gave her chills. It was honestly terrifying.
After a long silence, Roberta spoke up again. “If you don’t trust me anymore, you can move out. Your husband’s got connections–he could easily talk to the dean and get you a new room.”
Ivy looked at her, but before she could say anything, Roberta was already packing her books and water bottle, slinging her bag over her shoulder. “I’m headed to the study lounge,” she said, and hurried out.
The door shut behind her, leaving Ivy alone in the room.
