Everyone at the table–even Ivy–sat there, wide–eyed and stunned.
Jamison calmly took his seat and added, “And for the ingredients we haven’t used yet, those can be cooked up for my brother and sister–in–law. They work so hard–they should really take better care of themselves. Who knows, maybe after they’re replenished, they’ll go for baby number four.”
Ivy was speechless.
Was he always this infuriating as a kid? If so, it was a miracle he’d survived childhood.
Thad, seeing he and his wife had been dragged into this out of nowhere, could only laugh in exasperation. “Have you no decency? Your sister–in–law isn’t exactly young anymore, and you’re pushing for a fourth child?”
Davina’s cheeks flushed. She wanted nothing to do with this conversation and quickly cleared her throat. “Alright, enough talk. Let’s just eat.”
She turned to the housekeeper and said, “That soup–don’t serve it to Hal, and give the adults just a little.”
Halley, blissfully unaware of any awkwardness and always the little foodie, immediately protested, “Mom, why can’t I have any? I want some too!”
“Hush! No fussing. You can have milk later,” Davina soothed him.
But Halley piped up, bright–eyed and innocent, “Can’t I have both milk and soup?”
“No, you cannot.”
His eyes darted as he pondered this, then lit up as if he’d solved a mystery. “Oh, I get it! If you drink that soup, you’ll have a baby, right? You drink the soup, your tummy gets big, and then you have a baby!”
There was no denying it–Halley had picked up far too much, and kids his age had no filter.
Davina barely managed to stop herself from covering his mouth.
Everyone at the table was red–faced with embarrassment until finally Danny waved a hand. “Take the soup away. And in the future, just forget about making any more.” The matriarch started to protest, but her husband quickly cut her off. “Let it go.
Chapter 615
You’re not going to win this one.”
All she could do was sigh deeply in defeat.
Ivy spent the rest of the meal blushing furiously. She’d never imagined the old lady would be so obsessed with them having more children–going so far as to cook
up “fertility–boosting” recipes for them.
She kept her head down and barely spoke, just hoping to finish her meal and escape as quickly as possible.
Meanwhile, Jamison, who had single–handedly ensured nobody got soup, remained perfectly composed, eating with his usual elegance and not a trace of guilt.
After Thad’s two kids finished eating and left the table, Adela Ludwig turned to her youngest son. “Did you two see a doctor yet? I spoke with a specialist, and they said your condition can be treated a surgery would do it.”
Of course Ivy knew this. But uterine surgery came with real risks, and Jamison was completely unwilling to let her go through that unless it was absolutely necessary.
These days, during her worst times each month, Jamison took excellent care of her. His massages helped ease her pain, and she was feeling much better than before.
That’s why Jamison insisted on this gentler approach. It might be slow, but it was safest for her body.
Now, at the mention of surgery, Jamison immediately pushed back. “I’m a doctor, Mom. Don’t you think I know a little more about this? Right now, surgery isn’t an option for her.”
