On their weekend trip to the amusement park, Jessica, Brian, and Jacob had barely stepped out of the car_____

when two brightly dressed girls rushed over, recommending some local specialty snacks known for being

good for pregnant women.

A girl said, “Jessi, you have to try these. They’re amazing!”

“Alright, thank you so much for sharing,” Jessica said with a warm smile.

The girl beamed, “Hope you like them. Thank you for not minding that I stopped you like this.” She gave Jessica a shy nod before grabbing her friend’s hand and running off.

She was so polite and sweet that Jessica couldn’t help but feel touched.

“Adorable fans, aren’t they?” Brian handed Jacob a balloon, steering Jessica toward the park entrance.

“So this is why you love Twitter now?” Jessica eyed him. She had never understood his sudden social media obsession until today.

“Partly,” Brian admitted.

Jessica recalled the early days of his account–the flood of hate comments, the accusations. She thought, ‘Did he really not know the backlash would come? Or did he do it on purpose? To prove something?‘

She bit back the question, not wanting to reopen old wounds.

“Mom, the roller coaster!” Jacob tugged her hand, sensing the tension. He adored their new life and refused

to let anything ruin it.

Glaring at Brian, he silently mouthed, “You better step it up, Dad.”

“Alright.” They were here for Jacob. Jessica naturally agreed, ruffling his hair as she led him toward the

roller coaster queue.

Brian, of course, wouldn’t let her stand in line. “It’s too crowded over there. Jessi, you and Jacob wait here. I’ll queue up.” Carefully shielding her from the bustling crowd, he guided them to a nearby seating area.

A young couple sitting there immediately stood when they saw Jessica. “Please, take our seats.”

“Thank you,” Jessica said sincerely!

The pair waved it off until their eyes landed on Brian. The man was tall and striking, his sharp features

softened only when he looked at Jessica.

“You’re… Mr. Atkinson?” the girl gasped, then instantly clapped a hand over her mouth.

He pulled out his phone to call security, but the girl was already apologizing profusely. “Sorry, my mistake. I must’ve gotten the wrong person.” She grabbed her boyfriend and bolted. Only at a safe distance did she sneak a photo.

“That girl’s taking a picture of us,” Jacob said.

“It’s fine. She meant no harm,” Jessica said, recognizing the girl’s quick cover–up was to protect them from a

mob.

Brian adjusted Jessica’s sunhat, then muttered, “I’m buying another one.” He usually hated hats, but

today’s attention made them necessary. He didn’t care about being photographed unless it disrupted

Jessica.

“Go ahead,” Jessica said, amused. The sun was harsh, and she stroked Jacob’s hair. “Get one for Jake. You forgot his hat earlier.”

Brian felt a pang of guilt. That morning, his focus had been entirely on Jessica. Jacob’s outfit hadn’t even

crossed his mind.

Soon, he returned with three matching sunhats.

Jessica didn’t comment, letting him replace hers without protest.

Jacob, however, eyed the coordinated black–and–white cat designs on his parents‘ hats, then glared at his

own haphazardly printed one. “Dad, you did this on purpose.”

“Nonsense.” Brian deflected, though his grip on Jessica’s hand tightened possessively.

Jessica just smiled.

Jacob longed to squeeze between them like before, each parent holding one of his hands. But Brian clearly had other plans today.

“Stop pestering her. Over here,” Brian ordered, pulling Jacob to his side instead.

“Why can’t you both hold my hands?” Jacob grumbled.

Brian smirked. “You’re too squirmy.”

Jacob yanked his hand away in protest, turning his back in a huff.

Brian ignored him, turning to Jessica instead. “Need anything?”
