Before they knew it, it was mid–October. In just one more day, Jessica would be heading off with Brian to film Love on the Road.
Wrapped in a wool shawl, Jessica stared out at the nonstop autumn rain, a flicker of excitement rising in her. She hoped the filming location for the first episode wasn’t raining.
On the other side of the living room, Brian wasn’t as relaxed as she was.
With the variety show filming starting tomorrow, relatives and friends who knew about it had been calling one after another, all telling him to take good care of Jessica.
Brian had just finished reassuring Dereck and Stella when Gavin called. He listened patiently for a moment, then gave his promise, and didn’t forget to sort out Jacob’s plans.
Brian said, “Dad, I know. Don’t worry, I’ll make sure nothing happens to Jessi. Oh, and could you keep an eye on Jake while we’re gone? Remember to pick him up from school tomorrow.”
“I’ve got it. Don’t fuss about that. Just go and have a good time with Jessi,” Gavin said gruffly and went on to remind Brian repeatedly to make sure Jessica enjoyed herself.
Gavin ended with a warning. “If anything happens to Jessi, don’t bother coming back.”
“If anything happens to Jessi again while I’m with her, I won’t need you to punish me. I’d never forgive myself,” Brian said in a low
voice.
“Hmph. Good that you know,” Gavin replied, hanging up.
Brian let out a breath. He was about to look up to see what Jessica was doing when another call came in.
“Hello, Mr. Atkinson. Are you and Jessi at home right now?” It was Sana.
“Yes. What’s up?” Brian asked, getting up to walk toward Jessica. On the way, he picked up the coat Jessica had left draped over a
chair.
“I put together some going–away gifts for Jessi. Since you’re home, I’ll bring them over now,” Sana said.
“Sure, thanks,” Brian replied politely and hung up. He lifted the coat and draped it over Jessica, pausing to brush his hand gently against her cheek.
“It’s a bit cold,” he said. “Don’t stand by the window for too long. The wind’s strong.” With that, he reached over and pulled the
screen shut.
“Okay, was that Sana on the phone just now?” Jessica pulled her coat tighter, letting Brian lead her inside.
“Yeah, she said she was bringing you gifts” Brian guided her to the sofa to sit down and went to the kitchen to make her a cup of
hot milk.
Just as the milk was ready, the doorbell rang-
Brian handed the milk to Jessica and turned to open the door. There stood Sana and Gabriela, each pushing a huge suitcase, with

Wesley looking rather helpless behind them.
“Why are you all here together?” Brian asked.
“Ran into each other on the way. Move over.” Gabriela gave a quick explanation and pushed her suitcase inside.
Brian stepped aside to let her through.
“Jessi, I brought you gifts,” Gabriela called out loudly to Jessica as soon as she walked in.
Behind her, Wesley tried to take Sana’s suitcase for her but got pushed away again, no kindness shown.
“I can manage myself. Get out of the way,” Sana said sharply.
Wesley rubbed his nose, not daring to argue further. What could he do? He knew he was in the wrong.
He’d found out Sana was bringing something to Jessica today, so he’d volunteered to pick her up from her place. But then he’d run into Lionel and Celeste, and of course, he’d stopped to say hello.
However, Lionel and Celeste were way too friendly, keeping him chatting for ages.
Somehow, he’d let slip that Sana still hadn’t agreed to his pursuit.
He swore on everything he wasn’t doing it on purpose, but Sana, who’d gotten an earful from Lionel, obviously didn’t believe him.
No choice. To keep from losing his precious girlfriend, Wesley had to try his best to make it up to her, keeping a low profile.
If Sana knew what he was thinking, she’d definitely punch him right then and there.
“Why are you two hauling such huge suitcases? What’s in them?” Jessica was surprised by the massive suitcases Gabriela and Sana were pushing.
“Nothing much, just some food, drinks, and supplies. Your first episode’s in Velandia, right? It’s pretty spread out there, not as easy to buy stuff as it is in Hartdale.
“Sana and I figured we’d stock you up beforehand, so you won’t run out of anything once you’re there,” Gabriela said casually.
“Yeah, exactly, Jessi. Gabi and I picked all this stuff out carefully. Take a look and see if there’s anything missing. I can go get it for you,” Sana chimed in and started to unzip the suitcase to show Jessica.
Wesley saw Sana struggling, so he quickly stepped forward, taking hold of the suitcase. “Let me help you.”
in front of everyone, Sana didn’t want to make him look totally bad, so she let go but shot him a sharp glare when no one was looking
Wesley almost laughed, finding her even more endearing.
Meanwhite, Brian had opened the big suit ase Gabriela brought.
Jessica looked at the two huge suitcases spread out in front of her, filled with all sorts of food and supplies. She couldn’t help but
let out a small, amused sigh. “I appreciate the thought, but this is way too much.”
She understood her friends wanted to look out for her, but two giant suitcases were a bit over the top.

“It’s not. I actually think we could’ve packed more,” Gabriela said.
“Exactly, Jessi. You have to take it, or I’ll be upset,” Sana added.
Gabriela and Sana took turns urging her, refusing to let Jessica say no.
