Danielle's heart skipped a beat. Still on the phone, she hurried to the curb and flagged down the first cab she saw.

On the other end, Clyde's voice grew graver.

"SoarCorp's project investment may have gone through, but it relies on a host of partner companies. Your mother's been leading her team, meeting with clients, even drinking with them to secure deals. But in the end, Intellectech poached every last one of those clients."

Danielle's brows knitted in concern.

Clyde went on, "To keep those clients and partners from being lured away, she's been out with them night after night, playing nice and drinking far too much."

"Last night, she was hospitalized with a bleeding ulcer. She needs a family member's signature for surgery today, but she wouldn't let me tell you."

Danielle felt a heavy weight settle in her chest.

"I'm heading to the hospital now."

"Don't worry too much. She got there last night, and the doctors say she'll be fine. She made it just in time."

Danielle exhaled slowly, steadying herself and gathering her thoughts.

"I know Intellectech's project. Even if they need more partners, there's a limit. They can't possibly use that many. There's no way they'd just keep disrupting the market for no reason."

Clyde's tone went cold. "You and Alex—are you getting a divorce?"

Danielle froze, her grip on the phone tightening.

"…Yes," she replied, her voice low. "Is this about him?"

"Leanne's been using her status as Alexander's future mother-in-law to pull in partners and clients left and right."

"Those companies aren't fools. If Alexander wasn't giving his tacit approval, there's no way Leanne could have stripped SoarCorp of so many resources."

Danielle listened, her face growing paler with every word.

She never imagined things would spiral this far—or that Leanne would go to such lengths.

And Alexander had stood by, letting them snatch SoarCorp's partners again and again.

To prop up his future mother-in-law's company, he was willing to sacrifice her mother's.
