They had been on the transplant list for what felt like forever.

“How much longer will it take…?” she asked, her voice unsteady.

The nurse shook her head gently. “There are people waiting all over the country. It’s a long line. For now, the only option is chemotherapy, and he really needs to rest. Please encourage him not to overexert himself.”

Clyde could technically be discharged, as long as he came back regularly for chemo.
