Grinding her teeth, Millie finally turned to Danielle. “I’m sorry,” she said, her tone stiff. “I’ll be more careful about how things look, from now on.”

The old matriarch glanced at Danielle, as if silently asking whether the apology was enough.

Danielle, of course, wasn’t going to press her luck in front of everyone. Grandma just wanted to show she was on Danielle’s side. But Danielle knew exactly where she stood in this house.

She lifted her gaze calmly. “Grandma, I’m fine.”

She neither forgave nor refused to forgive—just a simple reply, drawing a neat line under the whole ordeal.

Millie, sensing that her cue had come, wasted no time. She stood up immediately. “Since the misunderstanding’s cleared up, I’d appreciate it if there weren’t any more doubts about my relationship with Alex. Baseless suspicions only cause pain.”

She turned to Grandma. “I’ll be heading out.”

And with that, Millie left.

The old lady looked to Alexander. “Go get the menu.”

Alexander’s brows lifted. “What would you like to eat? I can ask the waiter to bring it over.”

“Just get the menu yourself,” Grandma insisted.

With a resigned sigh, Alexander got up and walked away.

The moment he was gone, Grandma turned to Danielle. “Are you satisfied with his apology? If not, I can have him try again. Or, if you’d like, you can decide how to handle this.”

Danielle did not want to meddle in the Davidson family’s affairs. She and Alexander were already over; this entire scene was nothing but a performance for the family’s sake.

“It’s fine,” Danielle said, letting the matter drop. “I’ve heard the house specials here are quite good. Let’s try them while we’re here.”

After their meal at the club, a chauffeur drove Grandma back to the family estate.

Before leaving, Grandma made a point of sending Danielle off to Alexander’s car herself.
