Today he stood up for me, but that doesn’t mean he cares about me. It only means he sees things in black and white, and, in this case, our interests happened to align.”

After all, she’d been married to Alexander for years, and she’d barely seen Jake, let alone gotten to know him.

Kirsten frowned, still puzzled. “But if your father-in-law is really that upright, how did you end up having such a tough time with the Davidsons?”
