Danielle immediately spotted Millie waiting outside the entrance.

As soon as Millie saw Alexander’s car pull up, her eyes lit up and she stood, smoothing her skirt with anticipation.

The passenger door swung open, and Danielle stepped out alongside Alexander.

Without so much as a glance, Alexander tossed his car keys to the valet.

The young man caught them and hurried off to park the car.

The moment Millie caught sight of Danielle, her expression soured in a way she couldn’t quite hide.

Why was Danielle getting out of Alexander’s car? Wasn’t she already divorced from him? She’d promised there would be nothing left between them. Yet here she was, clinging to Alexander again and again, like she couldn’t let go—like she was hoping for some sort of reconciliation.

Millie frowned, almost involuntarily.

She had nothing but contempt for women who couldn’t maintain their dignity. It was pathetic—disgusting, even. Divorced, and still hanging onto her ex-husband? What was wrong with her?

Forcing her features back into a neutral expression, Millie shifted her gaze to Alexander.

“Alex…”

He met her eyes, his tone calm but distant. “Why aren’t you inside waiting?”

His question made Danielle’s heart drop. She realized, with a jolt of clarity, that the person Alexander had brought her here to meet was none other than Millie.

Danielle’s brows drew together ever so slightly, but she kept silent.

Millie, proud as ever, would never admit that the staff had stopped her from going inside earlier.

“It’s nothing,” Millie replied quickly, forcing a lightness into her tone. “I just wanted to wait out here for you. You said someone important was coming—so why is she with you?”

A prickle of dread curled in Millie’s stomach. Was the so-called “important guest” actually Danielle?

Alexander didn’t answer her question. He simply nodded toward the entrance. “Let’s go inside.”
