Chapter 27
Harvey sank into the bathtub with a dark expression, enduring the scorching water. He had reminded the maids countless times–104.5 degrees Fahrenheit was his preferred temperature.
The scented incense was supposed to be lit ten minutes before he entered the bathroom, but the subtle fragrance was missing. Leaning back against the leather cushion at the edge of the tub, Harvey noticed the lighting wasn’t adjusted properly

“Ridiculous.” Elara never once got these simple tasks wrong in their seven years of marriage
Taking a deep breath, Harvey told himself to wait a few more days. Elara would be back soon enough.
The next morning. Elara picked up her phone and saw a message from August
“Ms. Jones, are you sure you want to invest all 60 million into the stock market?”
Elara replied confidently, “I’m sure. Execute the purchase as soon as the market opens.”
“Understood,” August responded, followed by a warning “Just don’t regret it later.”
Elara turned on her computer and opened the stock trend analysis program she had written. According to her model’s calculations, she believed the domestic market was poised for a rebound.
When the market opened, the stocks she instructed August to buy began to rise.
After closing her laptop, her phone rang again. Elara glanced at the screen, and it was from an unknown caller.
Since she had recently been sending out resumes, she didn’t want to miss a call from any company and pressed the answer
button
“Hello, Mrs. Fisher. It’s Mary,” said a familiar voice over the line.
“Do you know where Mr. Fisher’s red cat–eye cufflinks are?” Mary barely finished her sentence before Elara hung up.
What the hell did Harvey Fisher’s cufflinks have to do with her?
Elara then walked into the children’s room to check Bambi’s homework. Moments later, the landline phone in the living room rang. The sound was echoing eerily in the quiet space.
Elara got up, went to the living room, and pulled the cord out of the wall without hesitation. But before she could return to
Bambi’s room, the doorbell rang.
Opening the door, she found Frank standing outside. He was holding out his phone to her
Elara reluctantly answered the call, and Harvey’s cold voice reached her ear as he asked, “Where’s the refill for the body wash I usually use?”
Harvey’s irritation was clear–Elara had failed to replace the body wash before it ran out
“Harvey, did you find it? Never mind, I’ll just grab a soap and get it over with.”
Niamh’s voice chimed in, sounding exasperated like she just realized that Harvey was on call. “Are you calling Elara? She’ll definitely misunderstand! Just forget about it! I just won’t shower”
Harvey’s tone became defensive over the phone. “Niamh spilled food on herself while she and Beau were having breakfast”
It was both an explanation and a jab at Elara, implying she wasn’t fulfilling her responsibilities as a mother.
“Harvey Fisher, we’re divorced. Can you stop calling me?” Elara’s irritation was palpable
Unfazed, Harvey replied, “Even when the Fisher family’s housekeepers resign, they have a three–month transition period”
