Chapter 1958 Too Late To Change The Past
Seeing Randall so obedient was almost hard for Cecilia to believe. How on earth had her mother managed to keep him in line like that?
“Go on now,” Queenie said again.
Only then did Randall slowly back out, still smiling politely as he said to Cecilia, “Ceci, I didn't mean any harm. Take good care of your mom.”
After that, he stepped out of the ward, carefully closing the door behind him.
As soon as he left, Cecilia rushed to Queenie's side. “Mom, what's going on?”
Queenie gave her a mock stern look. “Why didn't you tell me something that serious was happening at the company?”
Cecilia lowered her head. “I wanted to try and handle it myself first.”
She'd been worried about Queenie's health and was afraid the stress might cause her to fall ill again.
Queenie understood but still said, “I'm not scolding you. I just want you to rely on me more.”
“Okay,” Cecilia replied with a nod.
“My health's been going downhill, and there's only so much more I can do to help you,” Queenie admitted, taking Cecilia's hand. “If you don't keep me in the loop, I might not even realize something's wrong. Randall's just taking advantage of the fact that you're young and I'm unwell to act recklessly. But really, you don't have to be afraid of him. He can't do anything serious.”
Cecilia looked puzzled. “What do you mean?”
Queenie smiled. “Because I've got some dirt on him.”
After a brief pause, she added, “So if anything happens at the company, tell me right away. I don't lose my cool easily.”
After a long conversation, she had slowly begun to absorb Queenie's teachings. Cecilia caught on quickly. Even the slightest nudge from Queenie and she understood what to do.
As soon as Cecilia left to grab dinner, Caliste sighed. “Ms. Smith has so much potential. If she'd been raised under your guidance from the start, she would've accomplished great things by now.”
Queenie nodded in agreement. “Well, it's too late to change the past.”
Lately, Magnus had been feeling depressed. Ever since fleeing Tudela, things had gone downhill fast, and he was almost broke.
He was holed up in a hotel, but he'd already run out of money to cover the bill. Out of options, Magnus pulled out his phone and called Heather. “Granny.”
“Sweetie, you finally called! Where are you? Please pay your uncle back soon. He's furious with me. Said he'll kick me out if I can't repay him. That heartless man!” Heather's worried voice crackled through the phone.
