Lemira forced a smile, trying to hide her turmoil, but her friends weren’t fooled.

When they went out for dinner, Lemira got a message from Orion asking what she wanted to eat that night.

She glanced at it and, with a blank expression, replied, “Having a team dinner, can’t make it.”

Orion was in his car, feeling a growing sense of unease at her response. He called her, but it went straight to voicemail.

He texted again: “Where’s the dinner? I have something for you.”

But his message was met with silence.

Orion loosened his tie and rolled down the window, letting the cool breeze in. It was clear to him now—Lemira was definitely upset.

Lemira saw the message but deliberately left it unread. She had a few drinks, and Janice cautioned her, “Hey, slow down on the drinks, or you’ll regret it.”

But Lemira just wanted to drink.

Timothy offered, “I’ll carry her home. She’s too wobbly, she’ll trip.”
