Sydney blinked and stepped closer, curiosity pulling her in. "What is it?"

Diana patted the empty space beside her. "Sit down."

Agatha watched with a warm smile. "Sit, sit. Look at you, Sydney. The moment you saw her, you lost your head."

The smile in Diana's eyes deepened.

Sydney touched her nose, a little embarrassed, and sat. She leaned in to read the cover of the document in Diana's hands.

'A Share Transfer Agreement?'

Something Julian had said the night before surfaced in her mind. "In a couple of days, you'll be one of Hutton Group's major shareholders."

She pushed the thought away almost at once. It couldn't be what she was thinking. The Hutton Group's market valuation was in the billions. There was no reason for them to hand shares to an outsider.

While her thoughts drifted, Diana slid the document from its clear sleeve and held it out. "Take a look?"

"Diana…" Sydney hesitated.

Julian settled into the seat across from her. His expression was gentle. His tone was not. "Just read it. For all you know, she only wants you to look."

Diana and Agatha both laughed.

Sydney relaxed. 'Fair enough. I will read it first and figure the rest out after. Maybe Julian is right. Maybe Diana only needs a second pair of eyes on the agreement, even if those eyes belong to a doctor, not a lawyer.'

She turned to the first page. She read the names of the two parties and paused. She read on. When the share percentage came into view, her stomach lurched.

'Sydney Wilson… 5%...' She read it again and again. When she was certain she had not misread it, she looked up at Diana. "Diana, why this much?"

"Our father had no direct part in what happened to your adoptive parents. But our family owes you an answer." Diana uncapped the pen and held it out. "This 5% comes from our father's holdings. Grandpa approved the transfer. But our father is overseas, so the process will take time. The agreement won't take effect until everything clears."
