They realized they could touch the bottom, but their packs were so waterlogged they felt like they were hauling giant buckets strapped to their backs. Standing up straight was impossible, so they just crouched there, using the river’s lift to help carry the weight.

Daisy was furious. She finally managed to steady herself and shouted back, “Lydia! You did this on purpose, you broke the rules! You have to go back to the start and get punished!”

Lydia’s eyes flashed with challenge. “Let’s see who really broke the rules, who gets punished, and who has to start over then.”

She didn’t bother arguing. Instead, she waited while Daisy’s group awkwardly paddled and scrambled towards the bank. As soon as Daisy got her footing, she pulled out her phone and called the support center, quickly painting herself and her friends as the victims. She reported that Lydia’s team had sabotaged them just to win.
