Aiden reacted in an instant. The moment the windshield shattered, he snatched up the stun baton from the car and swung it straight at the guys outside. In seconds, the men smashing the glass were on the ground, yelling in pain. Aiden barely paused. He shoved open his door and launched a kick that knocked two more thugs off their feet.
“Who sent you?” he barked, pinning one of the men to the ground with his foot.
Connor stepped out next, his expression ice-cold as he stared down the panicked group. “Whose idiots are these?” he asked, his voice totally flat.
Aiden had already taken out half the gang, and the rest, realizing they were in over their heads, kept their distance. The leader froze when he saw Connor coming out of the car. His face drained of color, fear written all over it.
“Con… Con…” He stammered, brain short-circuiting. This was supposed to be just a regular Mercedes. They’d seen that girl, Lydia, get in. How was it that the guy stepping out was Connor—the last person anyone wanted to mess with? Where had they gone so wrong?
Everything had changed in less than two minutes. Before the men in black could even gather their wits, a fleet of sleek black cars pulled up out of nowhere, boxing everyone in. The head of security rushed over to Connor, visibly anxious. “Sorry, boss. We’re late.”
Connor just waved him off. He’d told them to keep their distance tonight, just to keep things low-key while picking up Lydia from school.
Aiden turned to the security chief. “Take them all away. Don’t let a single one slip. Find out who’s behind this.”
The road was wide and pretty deserted, but sticking around any longer would definitely attract attention. The lead thug was called Leopard. He looked like he’d seen a ghost. He never imagined he’d just trashed Connor’s car. If he’d known Connor was inside, he wouldn’t have do this.
“Mr. Jefferson, please, this is a huge misunderstanding!” Leopard begged, panic in his voice.
