There was something almost resigned in his smile, though Nathalie couldn’t quite put her finger on it.
She glanced at Morris, who made the call for her. “It’s from Dad, so just take it.”
Lincoln gawked at Jules, completely stunned. “You’re really willing to give away the business you spent your whole life building—to my daughter?”
Jules shot him a look. “Vivian’s my daughter now too. I want her and Nathan to be happy, just like you do.”
Lincoln still felt unsettled, like there was something he wasn’t getting. “Jules, what are you really up to? I’ll tell you this: if you give those shares to my daughter, she won’t hesitate. We’ll take them, no problem.”
Jules grinned. “Lincoln, make sure you take good care of the legacy I’m leaving Vivian.”
Lincoln was thoroughly impressed by the Sharp family’s generosity. He thumped his chest and let out a booming laugh. “Alright, since you and your son are so sincere about this, I’ll let my daughter marry Nathan. Come on in, lunch has been waiting all morning!”
He led everyone inside. The place was decked out: bright red lanterns hung from the ceiling, and on them was a photo of Nathalie and Nathan, leaning into each other. Red agate stones were tied along the railings, and the windows were plastered with stickers of twin lotus flowers.
Nathalie’s cheeks went bright red. “Dad, what is all this?”
Lincoln put on a wounded expression. “You and Nathan won’t let me throw you a big wedding, so today’s your big day—why shouldn’t I decorate a little?”
“Dad, this is way over the top!”
“Not at all,” Jules chimed in, surprisingly siding with Lincoln for once. “If you ask me, there aren’t nearly enough agates, and they’re too small. Those stickers look cheap—they should’ve been made of rubies. And these red silk ribbons? Totally tacky…”
Lincoln didn’t even argue. “Ha! You think so too? Same here! But I used all the good stuff decorating the bridal suite. We swept every jewelry store in the Capital and bought up all the red stones we could find. Still wasn’t enough.”
