Chapter 722: It’s alright to cry, Jeniva

Dominick knocked on the door of Jeniva’s room and waited for her to open it. Within seconds, it swung open and he stepped inside, finding the papers scattered on the table.

"Are you already deep into the strategizing?" Dominick asked.

"Yes," Jeniva replied. "Xaris Albamus, the Alpha who bought me, is my primary target."

"You found out his name!?" Dominick arched his eyebrows in surprise.

"The spy did," Jeniva answered. "I’ve been tracing his network, his black-market associates, and everyone who has ever profited from his trade." She paused, turning to face him. "I need to go undercover tomorrow. Do you really intend to accompany me? Why won’t you trust me to handle this mission on my own?"

Dominick turned away from the table. "I trust your skill, Jeniva. But I don’t trust the man Xaris is. The last incident is burned into my memory, and I refuse to let you walk back into that lion’s den alone. If anything happened to you under my watch, I would never stop questioning my own ability to protect those I care about."

Jeniva stepped closer, closing the distance between them until she was standing directly beside him.

"And I cannot allow you to be the one in the line of danger," she countered softly but firmly. "The spy assisting me is an elite combat warrior. You should remain at the residence, Dominick. I know your heart is heavy with worry, but I promise you, I will not be harmed. You have to trust me on this."

Jeniva’s hands were small but firm as she took his, her gaze holding his.

"I want the Alpha Prince to be safe," she whispered. "He is meant to command, not to get involved in such dangerous tasks. Treat me as you did before you knew who I was, before this bond began to pull at us."

"I wish I could," Dominick murmured.

His gaze dropped instinctively to her lips, the distance between them suddenly feeling agonizingly small.

For a second, they felt a strange tension growing between them. Then, with a sharp intake of breath, he shook his head, physically pulling himself back from the edge.

’What am I even thinking?’ he scolded his wolf. ’Black, stop playing with my head.’

’I did nothing,’ Black countered immediately. ’These aren’t my instincts, Dominick. These are your own thoughts. You want to kiss her. Don’t blame the wolf for the man’s desires.’

Dominick tightened his grip on Jeniva’s hands for a second longer than necessary before letting go and stepping back toward the map-covered table. "Even if I stay back," he said, "I will have a recovery team stationed less than a mile from the exchange point. That is my final condition."

"Okay. Thank you for listening to me, Your Highness," Jeniva said, a soft smile playing on her lips.
