Amelie stood outside Carlos’s room for a moment before gently knocking on the door.
A second later, his voice came from inside.
"Come in."
She pushed the door open and stepped into the room. Carlos was seated by the desk near the window, an old, worn book resting on the table. The pages looked yellowed with age, as if it had been read many times before.
The moment he noticed her, Carlos quietly closed the book.
"What are you reading?" Amelie asked as she walked further into the room, her curiosity pulling her closer to the desk.
Carlos leaned back slightly in his chair, twirling on it to face her.
"For this," he said calmly, "I had to leave immediately at that time."
Amelie blinked in confusion. "What do you mean?" she asked, staring at him. "You never told me or Gabriel the reason for your sudden departure last time," she continued. "You looked so troubled back then."
Her voice softened slightly. "I didn’t insist on knowing because you asked me not to," she added.
"Thank you for respecting that," Carlos said quietly. "I was troubled at that time... more than I let anyone see. And I didn’t want to burden you or Gabriel with my problems," he added.
Amelie folded her arms lightly, still watching him with concern.
"What happened exactly?" she asked.
Carlos exhaled slowly. "I had a vision," he said.
Amelie’s expression immediately sharpened with attention.
"In that vision... I saw a dagger piercing through me. But what confused me was that I was the one holding the dagger."
He leaned back slightly in his chair.
"At first, I assumed it meant that I was somehow responsible for my own death. The vision felt strange to me because I’ve never seen a vision about myself before. That’s why I left. I needed answers."
Amelie stepped closer to the desk.
"You know you’re part of my family," she said firmly. "Your problems are ours too. If there’s any danger coming for you, Gabriel and I will help you face it. Did you find out what the vision means?"
Carlos gave a faint smile.
"Amelie... in the world of witches and sorcerers, seeing a vision about yourself is never considered a good sign."
Amelie felt a shiver run through her. "You’re scaring me," she murmured. Her eyes shifted to the old book on the table. "Did you find the answer in that?" she asked.
"Yes," Carlos replied quietly.
Amelie stared at him, trying to process what he had just admitted.
"But why would you harm yourself?" she asked, her voice tightening with disbelief. "Maybe something was wrong with your vision. Visions can’t always be exact."
It was clear she refused to accept the possibility that the vision could come true.
Carlos watched her calmly. "Amelie, that’s exactly what I need to find out," he affirmed.
He glanced briefly at the old book before continuing.
"I already knew that seeing a vision about myself wouldn’t be a good sign. But I needed confirmation... and now I have it."
