The hunter, a man with a weathered grey beard, squinted at his screen to confirm the target. He cross-referenced the digital photo with Jeniva’s face before ducking further behind the dense bushes.

Moving with silence, he reached into his boot and pulled out a tiny yet lethal pistol. But as he leveled his aim, a hand clamped violently over his mouth. Simultaneously, his weapon was wrenched from his grip.

Dominick struck with enough force to knock the man unconscious. Breathless, he scanned the surrounding foliage for other threats, but the garden remained still.

He immediately signaled his security detail, ordering them to evacuate the public and clear the botanical garden under the guise of a safety protocol.

He waited until he saw Jeniva safely enter a taxi. Only once her car had disappeared into the city traffic did Dominick return to the thicket where the hunter lay bound and beginning to stir.

"Take him to a cell and wake him up," he commanded.

The guards obeyed instantly. While they dragged the man away, Dominick called Evan, who picked up on the first ring.

"I’m on my way to Jeniva’s house now," Evan reported.

"Did you alert the local sentinel station in her sector?" Dominick asked.

"Yes. Don’t worry, Your Highness. Jeniva will be safe," Evan replied. He paused, then added, "I am confused about one thing, though."

"What is it?"

"Why didn’t you go to Jeniva yourself and take her home? You would have been faster than anyone else. You could have brought her straight to the palace where her security is guaranteed," Evan stated, glancing briefly at his driver.

Dominick looked toward the iron doors of the cell block. "It’s better if I stay away from her for some time."

Evan was confused to hear that. He felt something happened between them.

"Jeniva’s sister is also home, so taking only her wasn’t the solution. And I didn’t want Jeniva to get scared," Dominick asserted.

"Jeniva doesn’t get scared, Nick. You also know this," Evan remarked.

"Yes, I know. But she’s on a vacation. I don’t want her to know that someone tried to kill her. That’s why keep the security in a way that she doesn’t find out and spend her vacation normally without any worries. I’m trusting you with that," Dominick told him.

"I promise I won’t let anything happen to Jeniva and her sister," Evan assured him before hanging up the call.

Dominick gazed at the screen for a moment before heading to the prison.
