~Kade's POV~
Anna was sleeping on the couch, Masons head bobbed down as he nodded off in the chair and Cara was the only one other than myself still sifting through mounts of information.
i was glad that Anna finally slept and I didn't want her to wake up. She needed the rest and if, when I got Layla back, her friend wasn't healthy I was screwed.
The sun was rising and the house was waking up. Pups were heading off to school screaming outside the windows. The gates were now open for anyone to come and go as they pleased but they were rarely inside the house, they stayed on the parks and vicinities around it.
"What time is it?"
"Six," I said and looked at my sister.
She yawned and tossed me a book.
A shaman's guide to life
"He writes about the Emberclaws, not a lot but enough to gain some insight." I nodded my head and opened up the book.
"They really are manipulative bitches, aren't they." She groaned and opened another folder. Yes they are. The Emberclaws would do anything to gain power and dominance over other species, so much had been made clear to us after reading all of this.
"Hey look at this," Caras eyes narrowed on the paper she held in her hand and it was like any sleepiness vanished from her.
Her eyes drew over the lines and she looked up at me over the paper.
"You have to read this," she said and handed it over.
"I was on my way to meet with the siar, she who sees the future. Her premonitions had never been mistaken for hoax as each one had become truth. Why, on this road to answer, did i stumble so very many times? Why had i not reached her before my journey cut short? They lurk in the shadows, hide behind the trees and when one gets to close they come out. Once you have been made a threat they stop at nothing to silence the curious mind. This must be why i am here, sitting in the lone mans chair writing on paper of my tries and failures as opposed to my success. She is out there with the answers, she has seen it all and maybe on a glorious day a warrior will find it and scream it aloud. Only thing I hope is that by the time a brave man conquers the tale he will not be too late. They are watching, listening and waiting for anyone who dares think himself better than they. If not such man is to be born, the werewolf species will surely fall under leadership of the Emberclaws and their king."
I looked up at my sister after reading and turning my head I saw Anna listening intently as well. Her eyes widened as she sat on the couch.
"We have to find her." Our train of thought on who the siar could be and where she could live was cut short when the sound of a car pulling up drew our attention to the front of the house.
"Looks like our guest has arrived." Mason said newly awake but more than ready to meet Alpha Sebastian and his father.
We welcomed them, shaking hands with both Sebastian and his father as well as his fathers friend who accompanied them. Apparently the former Luna was staying behind with their other child to take care of the pack which didn't sound so promising.
"Alpha Kade, it’s a pleasure. I've heard the stories of your conquests and they are truly magnificent," Dimitri, the fathers friend, said.
"Let’s go inside." I showed them to my office, not wanting my pack members to see them for too long and think that we were making a deal. Anyone who made deals with that family was down on their last lock of luck and I didn't need the pile up of packs thinking they could overthrow us because word got out about this. I was too busy for that.
Cara closed the door and stood at my side as I sat behind my desk.
They didn't like being questioned and I could tell that Aldo was getting impatient but we weren't about to go out on a wild goose chase based on their word alone.
"Decades of assembled information." He said and looked at me.
"You see my father and his before him, leading back to the beginning of our pack, knew of the Emberclaws. In order to protect their pack and its members they gathered as much information as possible and compiled it into a single book. We wanted everyone in our family to be aware of the dangers that were out there,"
"Where is the book?" Cara asked. Aldo got up and lifted his bag. He picked out a beaten book that looked more like a journal.
"That's it?" Mason asked and tilted his head to the side in question.
"No, the book was destroyed by an Emberclaw. They went around and destroyed any and all information that had been gathered on them but this, this is a journal that has been written by many of our ancestors and it tells the story of the Emberclaws."
Cara was about to grab the book but I stopped her and looked at Aldo.
"What’s in this for you?" I asked him and stepped around the desk. He lifted his head and stood straight.
Sebastian rose as well and the tension rose in the room.
"My only wish is that once you have this information and you find the pack, Layla Leqruest comes home with us."
