She planned to head to Unison Pharma after her day at the institute was over, but a call from Sean interrupted her plans.

“Ma’am, we have another problem.”

“What is it?”

“There’s a critical project in the research department that was being led by Lauren. Were you aware of it?”

Anastasia frowned. “Lauren was leading a project?” She had looked into the company’s operations, but her review had been brief. She hadn’t known about this.

“Yes, and it’s a major one,” Sean explained. “For the past two years, Unison Pharma has been developing a new drug. It’s on the verge of completion, but Lauren has all the confidential data.”

“I had someone contact her, but she’s refusing to cooperate. She claims that since she was the lead researcher from the beginning and did most of the work, the results are rightfully hers. She says she has no intention of handing them over to Unison Pharma.”

Anastasia’s expression hardened. It didn’t matter who did the work. It was developed while she was an employee, using company resources. The project was funded entirely by Unison Pharma. How could Lauren possibly claim ownership?

“If she doesn’t understand the law, have our lawyers explain it to her,” Anastasia said coldly.

It was a clear-cut case of corporate theft. If Lauren wanted to play dumb, Anastasia had no problem sending her to prison.

A chilling smile curved Anastasia’s lips.

“Prepare the lawsuit,” she commanded. “Sue her for everything she’s worth.”

“As for the new drug,” she added, her voice ringing with newfound authority, “leave that to me.”

She had been too low-key since her return. It was time people remembered that in the world of pharmacology, she was the one the renowned Dr. Bruno himself had called a once-in-a-generation genius.
