She first sent the prescription to another doctor to confirm it wouldn't cause any harm, then went to her grandmother and whispered, "Grandma, what do you say we give it a try?"
After a lifetime of good health, the sudden loss of mobility in her legs had been a huge blow to the elderly woman. She hesitated for only a moment before agreeing.
After drinking the medicine, Shirley followed the massage techniques written on the paper and tentatively began massaging her grandmother's legs.
She worked for several hours, but seeing no effect, she finally stopped, disappointed.
It was dinnertime, and Nelson came in to get his daughter. He was startled to see her holding his mother's feet. "Shirley, what are you doing?"
Cheryl heard the commotion and came over. Her sharp eyes immediately spotted the medicine bowl on the nightstand and the paper with massage instructions in Shirley's hand. Her expression changed instantly.
"Shirley! What are you doing? Did you give your grandmother medicine?!"
Shirley defended herself. "All the other doctors said there was no hope, so why not try? I checked; Anastasia's prescription is mild and harmless. It won't hurt Grandma..."
"You're being completely reckless!" Cheryl cut her off sharply, furious. "Is medicine something you can just take randomly? Queena said Anastasia has no skills whatsoever, how could you believe her!"
Shirley bristled at that. "You just believe everything Queena says? I've met her sister, Penelope, and she's a piece of work. Have you forgotten about the whole Aaron incident? Penelope was the one involved with him!"
"If Penelope is like that, how good can Queena be? I think she's just like her sister, deliberately slandering the rightful daughter!"
Cheryl held Queena in high regard and immediately came to her defense. "What do her sister's actions have to do with her? I've known her for years, you think I don't know what kind of person she is?"
"Besides, was she wrong? Look at you, you've been at this for so long. Other than making your grandmother uncomfortable, have you seen any results?"
Shirley was at a loss for words.
Cheryl's face was flushed as she offered a sincere apology.
Though she was headstrong and impulsive, she wasn't one to shirk responsibility.
This apology was far more genuine than the one at the Lancaster estate. She even poured Anastasia a cup of tea herself.
Anastasia hadn't been overly angry in the first place, and seeing Cheryl's attitude now, any lingering resentment vanished. She even found herself admiring Cheryl's forthright character.
"It's alright. Let's go see your mother first."
Mrs. West Sr. still couldn't walk—the feeling in her legs had only lasted for about half an hour—but her spirits were much higher than before. She was all smiles when she saw Anastasia.
