Harrison gently wiped a grain of rice from the corner of her mouth. "Nothing you want to say?"

Anastasia felt so guilty she couldn't even lift her head. "Maybe... maybe Mr. Perez was distracted when he put the needle in...?"

"Is that so?" the man's voice rumbled from above her. "Mr. Perez has been with the Lancaster family for decades, and now he can't even insert an IV needle properly. It seems it's time to find a new family doctor."

A pang of guilt hit Anastasia, and she reached out to grab his arm. "It has nothing to do with Mr. Perez—"

Her movement was so abrupt that something from under the covers was dislodged, rolling onto the floor and landing right at Harrison's feet.

—A hot water bottle.

Anastasia: "..."

Harrison was so exasperated he almost laughed. Now he finally understood where all that sweat had come from.

"On a day this hot, you're wrapped in a thick quilt with a hot water bottle? You really know how to make yourself suffer!"

Anastasia gave a weak laugh. "It wasn't so bad..."

Before she could finish, the quilt was ripped off her, exposing another hot water bottle on her other side.

The air grew suspiciously quiet again.

"Look at me," the man standing by the bed commanded in a low voice.

Anastasia tried to burrow back under the remaining covers, but he caught her.

"You have the guts to fake an illness to trick me, but not the guts to face the consequences? Hmm?"

"I just wanted you to come home!" Seeing no escape, Anastasia decided to go on the offensive.

"If I hadn't pretended to be sick, would you really have stayed out all night?" She put her hands on her hips, tilting her head up to look at him with a mix of defiance and grievance. "You left me at home feeling guilty and miserable, while you were probably out there drinking and having the time of your life!"

The unexpected accusation made Harrison's brow twitch. "Me, having the time of my life?"

Anastasia said reluctantly, "That next time I meet with someone, I shouldn't hide it from you..."

"You're not convinced?"

Anastasia puffed out her cheeks. She didn't answer, but she was, in fact, a little unconvinced.

She privately thought she hadn't done anything wrong this time. She hadn't told him because she was afraid he'd be upset. Since she was just going to return the item and have no further contact, why bother telling him and creating unnecessary trouble?

The only thing she hadn't anticipated was Lester's confession... but who could have predicted that? She barely even knew the guy!

She shot a slightly resentful glance at the man before her. Some people were just so unreasonably jealous!

Harrison's expression didn't change. "He gave you a gift like that before, and you still dared to meet him behind my back. Don't I have every right to be angry?"

"...Alright, fine. I was wrong."

She looked up at him. "It won't happen again."
