Sebastian’s voice was low and steady. “Yeah. He is out of danger. He is already awake though he is still bedridden for now. The doctors said he will make a full recovery given some time.”

The tension finally left Derrick’s shoulders. “That is good to hear.”

He had spent years resenting his father for that final decision but over time that anger had started to fade. He knew deep down that his father had been backed into a corner and forced to do what he did. Derrick had simply been too stubborn to go back and face him. But seeing the photos of the old man lying in a pool of blood filled him with a sudden sharp regret.

Sebastian stayed silent for a moment before speaking again. “Do you want to come back and see him? The day he crashed he kept calling your name. I think he wants to see you. Honestly I’ve been able to tell these past few years that he regrets how things went. He was just too proud to say it. This might be the right time to come home. If you wait until it is too late you will never get another chance.”

Derrick froze. The idea of going back had crossed his mind a thousand times but every time he remembered Greg’s stubbornness he had forced the thought down. Hearing it suggested now made his chest tighten.

“I hear you. I will think about it.”

“Fine” Sebastian said. “It is your call. Just don’t do something you will regret later. One more thing. What do you make of that package?”

Derrick’s expression went cold. “I have no idea. The Whitmores have made plenty of enemies over the years and it is the same for the Austins. I don’t know what this person is after. Are they trying to threaten me or are they challenging the Austin family?”

Sebastian’s face was like stone. “Whatever they want they laid a hand on the Whitmores. I will make sure they pay for it in blood.”

“Just make sure you ramp up security on your end” Derrick warned. “Watch yourself. There is no telling if they will try something else.”

“I’ve got it. Don’t worry. I am already looking into it.”

“Good. Keep me posted and call me the second anything changes with your Grandpa.”

“I will” Sebastian replied.

They talked for a few more minutes before hanging up.
