Beneath the gentle warmth of the spring sun, a boy and a girl sat closely side by side. One spoke softly, the other listened intently, their faces lit with easy smiles as if the rest of the world had simply faded away. Years down the line, when Lillian reached the pinnacle of her success, Jeremy would find himself drifting back to that quiet moment again and again, lost in the sweetness of the memory.

That same afternoon, the school’s online forum was set ablaze by a new post titled: “Lillian and Jeremy, the Campus Prince-Romance Exposed.” Attached were several candid photos, taken on the bleachers during what seemed like an ordinary conversation.

In every picture, Jeremy’s eyes never left Lillian’s face, glowing with warmth and a hint of adoration. With looks like that, it was hard for anyone to believe there was nothing more between them.

Jill sighed, clearly realizing Lillian hadn’t seen the forum frenzy yet. She handed over her phone. “See for yourself. You and Jeremy are the hottest topic right now.”

Lillian glanced through the photos, and Jill’s smirk deepened. “Look at his eyes in these. He’s practically worshipping you. Who’s going to believe there’s nothing going on?”

Lillian let out a helpless laugh. “That’s just the angle. We were sitting and talking. Nothing more. How does that turn into a romance?”

Jill shook her head knowingly. “Sure, maybe you don’t feel the same way. But Jeremy? His eyes say everything. Honestly, it feels like one of those stories where the boy falls hard and the girl doesn’t even notice.”

Lillian burst out laughing. “Jill, with that imagination, you should be writing soap operas.”

Jill rolled her eyes but kept smiling. “Fine, fine. Jokes aside, you should probably address that forum post.”

“There’s no need,” Lillian replied calmly. “Rumors fade when people get bored. Explaining only fans the flames. Give it time; the truth will reveal itself.”

Natalie bristled instantly. “What’s wrong with you? Whether Lillian participates or not is none of your business. You sound like a desperate lackey making a fuss over nothing.”

Nora smirked, eyes glinting with challenge. “What’s the point of good grades if you can’t prove yourself here? This is the moment everyone sees who truly deserves to be Riverdale High’s belle. Isn’t that right, Lillian?”

Lillian set down her fork, her voice icy. “No matter how hard you try, Nora, you’ll never be the belle. At best, you’ll be the joke.”

Darkness clouded Nora’s face, hatred flashing in her eyes. Back at her old school, she had been popular—good looks, a respectable family, always surrounded by admirers. But Riverdale High was different. Here, she was painfully ordinary, her charm and background meaningless. No one praised her anymore.

But Lillian—who had nothing but her looks and a small-town background—was admired by everyone. Even Jeremy paid attention to her. It was unbearable.

A crowd began to gather, sensing the brewing tension and eager to watch the drama unfold.
