The group of men had never expected that the seemingly fragile young woman before them possessed such extraordinary martial prowess. Realizing they were completely outmatched, they had no choice but to retreat, supporting one another as they staggered backward into the shadows of the night.

Their leader cast a fierce glare at Lillian. “Brat, this isn’t over.” With those words hanging in the air, they vanished into the darkness, leaving only silence behind.

Lillian then turned her gaze toward Ryan, whose chest was marred by several bleeding wounds. His face was pale, his breath shallow, but he managed to whisper, “Thank you… I owe you my life. I will repay this debt.”

With a simple flick of her wrist, Lillian produced a small vial filled with a fine powder. Calm and composed, she sprinkled the healing medicine over his injuries, her eyes reflecting quiet determination. “Well said. A favor that saves a life deserves generous repayment. But tell me, how exactly do you plan to return this favor?”

Ryan’s voice was weak but firm. “Whenever you ask, I will do everything in my power to fulfill your requests.”

Lillian studied him carefully. She knew exactly who Ryan Morgan was, though he had no clue about her identity. In his previous life, Ryan had been a business prodigy—an insightful man who had built his own empire amidst the ruthless corporate battlefield.

“Good,” she said with a hint of satisfaction. “Since you’ve promised, you’ll work for me from now on.”

Ryan hesitated for a moment, then shook his head. “I can’t. You saw what happened—people are trying to kill me. If I stay with you, I’ll only bring trouble.”

A lazy smile curved Lillian’s lips. “Do you think I’m afraid of those people?”

Suddenly, Ryan recalled how effortlessly she had taken down those bullies. It was true—if she could deal with them so swiftly, why would she fear anyone?

“Alright,” he agreed quietly. “If that’s the case, then from today forward, my life is yours.”

“Come eat. You’re too thin. If Mr. Leonard sees you like this, he’ll scold you again,” Karina teased.

Lillian laughed softly and took a seat. As she sipped the warm oatmeal, she joked, “Karina, whoever you marry someday will be a very lucky man.”

Karina smiled at the playful comment. “You little brat, just eat already. My only wish is to see you happily married one day. As for me…”

Her voice trailed off, and a shadow flickered across her face. A woman with blood on her hands like mine—who could truly accept me?

Lillian noticed the change in her friend’s mood and spoke gently, “Karina, life is about moving forward and living in the moment. If you find happiness, don’t let it slip away. No matter what happens, I’ll always be by your side.”

Karina quickly masked her feelings, rolling her eyes at Lillian. “Brat, focus on your food. I’m going to bed.” With that, she turned and walked away, leaving Lillian alone with her thoughts.
