Chapter 277: Testing

Cameron and the others felt as if they had been struck by a sudden, unexpected blow.

“Sebastian, seriously, you can’t do this—we haven’t even started eating yet,” Cameron protested, his voice tinged with disbelief.

Lillian caught the pained look on Cameron’s face, then glanced at the woman sitting beside him. A playful smile curved her lips. “Cameron, I don’t mind if you want to show off a little in front of me,” she teased softly.

Cameron suddenly froze, words stuck somewhere deep in his throat. As all eyes turned toward him, he muttered awkwardly, cheeks reddening, “I’m… reserved. Shy.”

“Shy? Hahaha, shy?” Manny burst out laughing, doubling over as if the idea was utterly ridiculous. The others couldn’t hold back either; their laughter bubbled up, filling the room with lighthearted amusement.

Rolling his eyes in frustration, Cameron grumbled, “What? Am I not allowed to be shy? Because I am.”

“Alright, alright,” Manny said between chuckles, finally catching his breath. “The famous Wu of Kingston, shy? Now that’s a headline I’d pay to read.”

Fawks gave the two jokers a look of mild irritation before turning his attention to Lillian. His voice was casual but curious as he asked, “Lillian, are you friends with Mr. Ryan from Skyreach Group?”

The question instantly drew everyone’s focus to her. Manny had been quietly intrigued for some time now; Lillian had always carried an air of mystery about her.

She looked like any ordinary high school girl, yet her medical skills were nothing short of remarkable. She knew Geo, and now it seemed she was close to several of Jiutian’s top executives as well.

Lillian’s expression remained calm and composed as she replied casually, “Yeah, we’re pretty close.”

Of course they were. Those men were her most trusted allies, her comrades in the battlefield of life. How could they not share a close bond?

Their gazes shifted to Sebastian, watching for any sign of reaction. His face stayed calm and unreadable as he silently placed food on Lillian’s plate.

Manny raised his glass, keeping his tone light. “So, Lillian, how long have you known Mr. Ryan?”

“Over two years, I think,” she answered without hesitation.

Hurrying forward, she snatched a porcelain vase from Hans’ hand and gently guided her to sit on the edge of the bed. Her tone softened as she tried to calm her down. “Don’t be angry. I’ve already done some digging for you. That girl’s name is Lillian. She’s nobody special—just from some small town. She’s smart, got into Riverdale High School, and went viral for a bit last year because of some video.”

She paused, letting the information sink in. “After that, she apparently signed with Jiutian Entertainment, then disappeared. Everything about her online vanished too. I even went to Riverdale High to ask around—everything checks out.”

“From a small town?” Hans murmured, contempt flashing in her eyes.

“Exactly,” her assistant confirmed. “And rumor has it, she’s an orphan.”

Hans’ disdain deepened, lips curling into a sneer. “Hah. I thought she was someone worth worrying about. Turns out she’s just a powerless little orphan. Trying to compete with me? She’s way out of her depth.”

In that moment, Hans was certain the man was only toying with Lillian. Men like him might fool around, even date someone for a while, but marriage? Never. A family of his status would never accept a woman with no background.

Relief washed over her, lightening her mood considerably. She refused to believe she could ever be defeated by some insignificant girl.
