Chapter 39: Karina’s Care

Back at Golden Coast, Lilian was just about to step into her spacious laboratory, ready to immerse herself in her pharmaceutical research, when the sharp chime of the doorbell interrupted her concentration.

Opening the door, she found Karina standing there, arms overflowing with bags of fresh groceries.

“Lilian, I’ve been so caught up with work lately that I haven’t had a chance to check in on you,” Karina said warmly as she stepped inside, carefully placing the bags on the kitchen counter. “So, I brought some fresh ingredients for you—make sure you cook something nourishing whenever you get the chance.” She methodically arranged everything into the fridge, her movements deliberate and caring.

Lilian trailed behind her, a gentle smile tugging at her lips. “Karina, I’m old enough to take care of myself now,” she teased softly.

Karina closed the refrigerator door and turned to face her, her eyes locking onto Lilian’s with a mix of affection and concern. “Don’t think I don’t know you, you little troublemaker. You’re always skipping meals whenever you think no one’s watching. Sometimes, I honestly wonder how you even managed to grow up healthy.”

She moved toward the lounge area, settling onto the sofa with a sigh, then added, “By the way, Ryan’s already filled me in on everything. I’ll keep an eye out for any promising leads on that research institute you mentioned. If something worthwhile pops up, I’ll be sure to let you know.”

Karina’s gaze softened as she continued, “Also, the pharmaceutical plant is nearly finished. When you have a moment, you should come by and take a look. Maybe there’s something that needs adjusting or improving.”

Lilian walked over to the bar, poured a glass of milk, and set it gently in front of Karina. “Here, have some milk. It’ll help you unwind.” She then took a seat opposite her, hugging a soft pillow close to her chest.

Karina took a slow sip, savoring the creamy taste before humming contentedly. “I don’t know why, but whether it’s the meals you prepare, the fruits you pick out, or even this milk—it all tastes somehow… special. So refreshing, and it leaves me feeling energized.” She wiped a small drop from the corner of her lips with her finger, a small smile playing on her face.

Lilian returned the smile but kept her silence. She wasn’t about to reveal that the milk was infused with spiritual spring water. Every so often, she discreetly slipped space-grown fruits, vegetables, or water into Karina’s and her mentor’s diets—just enough to subtly boost their health without drawing any attention. The secret existence of that space was far too dangerous to expose.

“Then drink up,” Lilian said casually, relaxing into the conversation. “Oh, and have you met Wayne yet? He’s going to be in charge of the entertainment division. Ryan split off the financial investment unit, but that’s still under his watch.”

Karina set her glass down with a calm nod. “Yes, I met him. Ryan gave me the rundown on the overall plan. I have to say, Wayne is impressive. In just half a day, he managed the transition with Ryan and already set several entertainment projects in motion. Tasks have been delegated, and he even restructured the whole department. Very decisive.”

“Understood,” Karina replied with a knowing smile. It was clear that balancing school and business left little room for anything more.

She stood up and said, “Alright then, I should head home. You need to rest—you’re still growing, and sleep is important.”

After Karina left, Lilian moved to the floor-to-ceiling window, gazing out over the serene, moonlit night. The world outside was quiet, but her heart was anything but calm.

Everything was finally falling into place.

So, to my dear father, my lovely stepmother, and my precious little sister—you’d better take good care of yourselves.

Because I’m coming.
