Chapter 427 The Night Before the Birthday Banquet

Ryan’s shock clearly piqued Wayne’s curiosity. He took the file for a glance, and when his eyes landed on the figures, he blurted out, “9.9 billion.”

“Exactly. That piece of land was bought for 9.9 billion. Why, is there a problem?” Lillian replied.

Wayne frowned. “But the company hasn’t had an expense that large recently.” If there had been such a massive cash outflow, they

would’ve known about it.

Lillian nodded. “You’re right; it was a gift.”

“G–gift? A gift?” Wayne stammered, then let out two dry laughs. “Miss, your friends sure are something. First a movie, now land. If you pulled out an island next time and said it was a gift, I’d believe you too.”

Ryan gave Wayne a disdainful look. “You’re only realizing that now? I’ve been used to it for a long time.”

Watching the two of them, Lillian chuckled. “Alright, enough. Go home; it’s already late. Next week will be hectic, so just bear with it a few more days. Once the jewelry launch is over, you’ll get a little downtime.”

The group left the office, and the space fell instantly silent.

Lillian walked to the window wall, gazing out at the sea of neon lights, her expression dim. Tomorrow was Morgan’s birthday banquet. The thought of seeing those people made her inexplicably irritable; yet because of her mother’s keepsake, she had no choice but to go.

Just then, the office door opened, and Sebastian strolled in.

Lillian looked at him, puzzled. “Why are you here?”

Sebastian stepped up beside her, taking in the city view. With a smile, he said, “My fiancée hasn’t come home at this late hour; I had no choice but to come pick her up myself.”

“I just wrapped things up; I was about to head home,” Lillian said.

Noticing the trace of loneliness on her face, Sebastian asked gently, “Are you thinking about tomorrow’s birthday banquet for Morgan?”

Lillian’s eyes widened. “How did you know?”

He drew her into his arms, lowering his voice. “I know everything that’s on your mind. Go tomorrow. He is your grandfather, after all. Yes, he was the one who set this tragedy in motion; but he also brought your mother into the Sinclair family back then, which in its own way saved her. Sometimes we can’t let hatred blind us; if you let it dictate everything, you’ll never truly be happy. Isn’t that right?”

Turning her head, Lillian looked at him seriously and nodded. “Mm. I understand.”

Sebastian smiled, took her hand, and led her toward the desk. Picking up her bag, he said, “Let’s go. The view here is beautiful, but it’s too late; you need rest.” With that, he guided her out.

Meanwhile, at the Sinclair residence-

In the great hall, nearly the entire Sinclair family had gathered.

Morgan, looking somber, asked, “Do you think Lillian will come tomorrow?”

“Dad, Chloe said she’ll definitely be there. If she said it, she means it,” Henry assured him.

Beth muttered from the side, “Can’t you just have a peaceful birthday for once? Why drag that jinx here? Ever since she showed up, Henry has become the laughingstock of all Kingston. Isn’t the trouble she’s caused enough already?”

“That’s right, Grandpa,” Chloe chimed in. “I don’t think she even wants to return to the Sinclair family. She just wants to avenge her mother. For all we know, in her mind, it’s us who caused her mother’s death.”

Vivian froze, then smacked Chloe sharply on the back, snapping, “Watch your mouth. Everyone knows her mother died in a car accident. How could that possibly be blamed on us?”

“Mom!” Chloe yelped. “Why’d you hit me? Can’t you just say it instead? Besides, I’m not wrong. Did you see the way she stormed in that day? She looked ready to tear us apart.”
