The instant Jimmy opened his eyes, Misty froze, her grip tightening desperately on Rona’s arm, panic flashing across her face.

Rona stepped forward swiftly, her voice gentle yet urgent. “Ms. Lilian, now that Jimmy’s awake, could you please—”

Before she could finish, Lilian cut in, her tone cool and detached. “I’m sorry, Ms. Rona. My break ends today. I’ll be leaving tomorrow. Given my questionable past, it’s probably best if you don’t count on me.”

Rona was taken aback by the blunt refusal. She glanced toward Mr. Quinton, silently pleading for support, but he remained silent, his expression unreadable.

“Lilian, please…” Rona’s voice wavered with desperation. “Help Barry. I was wrong—I shouldn’t have doubted you. Whatever you want, anything at all—I’ll agree.”

Lilian’s calm response was unwavering. “I’m sorry. I just don’t have the ability.” She wasn’t someone who could easily forgive repeated insults or be expected to turn the other cheek.

Misty snapped, her voice sharp and accusing. “You bitch! My mom is begging you, and you just stand there like a statue? You should be grateful we even let you in! You’re going to treat him whether you want to or not!”

“Misty, that’s enough!” Rona’s voice cracked with a mix of frustration and concern.

Justin stepped forward calmly, his tone respectful but firm. “I apologize for my sister’s outburst. Please don’t take it personally. As for our father, I ask you to reconsider. Whatever it takes—name your price.”
