94 Tenderness After the Storm

Once Lilian had freshened up, Sebastian gently took her hand and led her toward the dining room. The soft glow of the evening light filtered through the windows, casting a warm ambiance over the room. The table was already set, adorned with simple, light dishes that seemed thoughtfully prepared to nurture her weakened body.

Sebastian carefully helped her settle into her seat, his fingers tenderly brushing a stray lock of hair behind her shoulder. “Your body’s still fragile,” he murmured with concern, “so nothing greasy for now.” He placed a steaming bowl of soup before her, then added a few delicate side dishes to her plate, each movement deliberate and filled with care.

Watching his gentle attentions, Lilian’s lips curved into a soft smile. “You’ve really become the perfect boyfriend,” she teased, warmth blossoming in her chest.

Sebastian’s finger lightly flicked the tip of her nose, his voice indulgent. “Still in the mood to joke around, huh?”

Just then, the door burst open and Foster hurried inside. His eyes widened in disbelief as he caught sight of Lilian sitting calmly at the table. “Ms. Lilian?” he stammered, barely able to believe what he was seeing.

Lilian grinned and waved playfully. “Long time no see. I’m not a ghost, you know.”

Sebastian reached out to ruffle her hair once more, the fondness in his eyes unmistakable. “Troublemaker,” he said with a smile, before turning to Foster. “Well? What is it?”

Snapping out of his shock, Foster quickly replied, “Sir, Mr. Justin is here to see you.”

Even now, Foster couldn’t shake his disbelief that Lilian had come back completely unharmed. The explosion had been devastating, reducing the car to twisted metal—how could anyone survive such a blast?

Sebastian’s brows knit together tightly, a cold fire flickering in his dark obsidian eyes. “I won’t see him. Tell him to stop wasting his time.”

Lilian glanced at him, puzzled by the sudden sharpness in his tone. Her fair face showed quiet confusion, a subtle furrow between her brows.

Sebastian said nothing more. Instead, he picked up a piece of bread, carefully spread strawberry jam over it, and handed it to her. “Don’t dwell on it. It’s not something you need to worry about. Just eat.”

She accepted the bread, looking up at him with a questioning gaze. “Mr. Justin… you mean Justin?”

She already suspected who was behind the accident. After all, the only people she knew in Sandy River were the Lincolns. It wasn’t difficult to guess where the threat had come from.

“Yes,” Sebastian said in a low, dark voice. “The Lincoln family orchestrated it. I’m making sure they pay for what they did.”

He raised an eyebrow, meeting her gaze with a hint of mock hurt. “Lilian, your attention should be on me. I’m far more interesting than a phone.”

“You…” Lilian pressed a hand to her forehead, exasperated. This man was becoming shameless.

Sebastian grinned at her expression, then grabbed her hand and pulled her close, his voice teasing and low. “You were smiling so sweetly just now—I didn’t like it one bit.”

Caught off guard, she stared at him for a moment before bursting into laughter. She never imagined jealousy could make him look so endearing.

Behind them, Foster watched in silent horror. Is this really the cold, no-nonsense Mr. Sebastian we know?

Sebastian propped his head on one arm, gazing into her eyes. “We’re flying back tomorrow. I’ll take you somewhere tomorrow night.”

“Where?” Lilian asked, curiosity sparkling in her eyes.

His obsidian gaze gleamed with mystery. “You’ll see when we get there.”
