I stared in disbelief at the man standing before her.

“I can't believe you'e here?”

“Hearing your call yesterday,” he said calmly. “I could tell something was wrong. I'm glad I came— or I wouldn't have known you were being bullied like this.”

Wade was the first to react and pointed at my dad, “Who are you? Who are you to say null and void.”

Trevor wasn’t far behind, his tone just as confrontational. “This is our investment! We’ve already got everything well. How dare you show up and ruin it?”

He shot an impatient look at me. “It's you bring him here, right?”

The sheer irony of his words made me laugh bitterly. I stopped my father from saying any more.

“Let’s go.”

My father met my gaze, understanding the unspoken meaning, and nodded. Then we left without saying anything.

Just the moment after we left, Freya’s voice rose in a mocking tone. “Wade, what do you think Aurora’s relationship to that older man?”

Before they could speculate further, Wade and Trevor’s phones began ringing in quick succession. The irritated looks on their faces turned to panic as they answered. One call after another confirmed the same thing: their investments were being pulled.
