In this standout chapter of the Romance novel Save Her Lose Us (Evangeline and Soren), Evelyn Blackthorne introduces new challenges, powerful emotions, and major plot progress that captivate readers from beginning to end.

Blinding headlights washed over her, and Evangeline instinctively squinted, raising a hand to shield her eyes.

Dozens of men in black suits emerged from the vehicles, instantly surrounding her. The oppressive atmosphere was immense.

Evangeline’s hand, still holding her phone, froze in place. When she saw the man in the lead, her entire body tensed involuntarily, even though she had been preparing herself for this.

It was Madden, Victor’s personal bodyguard.

Evangeline recognized him. He was the one who had led the men to capture her five years ago.

Seeing him, Evangeline understood. Victor was finally making his move. He had probably been waiting for an opportunity all this time.

Victor hated her. As long as she was alive and Theresa had not returned, that hatred would never fade.

Realizing the gravity of the situation, Evangeline heard her phone still buzzing in her palm. After a moment's thought, she declined the call. At the same time, she quickly opened her phone's location app and requested to share her location with Finn.

However, when she saw the vast distance between them, her heart sank. It would take Finn time to get to her, time she clearly didn't have.

Evangeline looked around. The road was still empty.

In the direction Soren had driven off, not even his taillights were visible anymore. A dead silence hung in the air.

Thinking back on the deserted road she had been driving on, Evangeline realized with a dawning horror that this had been a well-planned ambush. She was once again in a situation where no one could hear her cries for help.

Evangeline sighed inwardly for only a moment before quickly accepting her current predicament.

“Miss Whitmore, please come with us,” Madden said coldly.

As soon as he finished speaking, two bodyguards stepped forward, grabbing her by both arms and forcing her toward one of the cars.

Evangeline struggled fiercely.

She yelled at Madden, “I’m Finn’s girlfriend now! If you dare to touch me, aren’t you afraid of what he’ll do when he finds out?”

Why?

As she thought about what could have made him so resolute, only one possibility came to mind: news of Tessa’s death.

Did he believe Tessa was dead?

Evangeline felt a complex mix of emotions. If Victor truly believed Tessa was gone, he would stop his large-scale search, and Tessa would no longer have to live in hiding. She could have a life of her own.

The price for that freedom, however, was that if he believed Tessa was truly dead, then she—the one who helped Tessa escape—would undoubtedly have to die.

In the past, Evangeline had never been afraid. After all, her death would, at most, elicit a few sighs of pity. No one would be truly heartbroken.

But now, an image of Finn’s smiling face flashed in her mind.

When she fell from the cliff, Finn had risked his own life to grab her hand. And when she let go and jumped, he had unhesitatingly let go and followed her down.
