Mom and Dad walk through the door and I give Mom a hug and Dad a handshake before walking upstairs. I don't say anything to them. I can't think of anything to say at the moment. They know where I'm going. To Everett's room.
When I reach it, the normally closed door is open wide. I hear whispering inside and see Alice and Justin standing in front of the memorial that is placed on her desk. All the photos that were taken before she was taken. There is a fresh lotus in a pot of water on the desk.
Lotuses were Everett's favourite flowers so at this time of year. Emily always finds one of the last lotuses in the nearby lakes and brings it here as a memorial.
"What a pretty flower." I hear Alice whisper.
"What are you doing in here?" I say my voice a little louder then I had intended. They both jump and turn around. "Do you have any idea who's room this is?"
"We're sorry Bryson, we were exploring. We didn't touch anything." Alice says, grabbing onto Justin.
I take a deep breathe. They didn't know, I tell myself. "It's okay. I'm sorry for scaring you. This is Everett's room. Just make sure to ask before coming in this room okay. And be super careful we don't want anything broken. It's all very precious to the people in this house."
"Okay." Alice and Justin put there heads down in shame.
I kneel down in front of them, "It's okay. You didn't know. Why don't you go say hi to my parents and see if dinner is going to be ready soon."
They leave with happy smiles and I walk up to the desk and pick up one of my favourite photos. Everett is in her Halloween costume as a princess and I am a prince. We are holding hands and have the biggest smiles on our faces. On either side of us there are our candy bags full. I put the photo down and sit on the bed.
Her scent has long left this room.
A ringing fills my ears and I pull out my phone. It's an unknown number. "Hello, who is this?"
"Alpha Bryson, I found her. I have Everett." I hear a male voice and then I hear a female voice whisper, "Bryson is it you? Are you real?"
