Second Chance-In the mist Book 1 novel Chapter 31

"Okay, now that I'm released, let's talk. Megan, you're going to be around Rebecca for a while. Tom knew too much and had to be silenced. Lucky for her, Dominic stepped in. But their turn will come." 

Dominic's story

Rebecca was walking and really making progress every day. In fact, it was only two days until the gala and I was already confident that she would step into the immense hall on my arm with no problems. 

However, I decided today that we would go to Declan. Rebecca suddenly recovered her sight and suffered a pretty serious blow before that. So, it was mandatory to make sure that everything was in perfect order and that it didn't put Rebecca's health at risk. 

"Are you ready, Rebecca?" I knocked softly on her door and her melodious voice invited me in.

"I'm ready!" She was indeed beautiful. She had enhanced her slender body with a strapless cloche dress, her shoulders covered with a thin shawl. Hair pulled back in a loose bun highlighted her cheekbones and long, perfect neck. I couldn't get enough of looking at her and I thought the time would come when I would do my absolute best to make her mine. But for now, I had to learn to control my urges and cravings. Scaring her was the last thing I wanted to do.

"Okay, if you're ready, let's go see Declan. I phoned him earlier, and he sounded very surprised that it had restored your sight. He almost didn't believe me," I giggled softly, losing myself a little in her soft eyes. 

On our way to the hospital, I caught Rebecca staring happily out the car window. She was so absorbed in the changing landscape as we drove along. Every now and then she would flash a smile so warm and innocent that I thought that once she entered my world, she would lose that innocence. The twenty minutes I drove to the hospital were not enough to take my mind off our situation. 

Declan, as usual, was with a patient, so they asked us to wait for him in the office. It was one perk of being his friend. But it didn't take long before he walked into the office happy but questioning.

"Dominic, what a… surprise…" and stopped abruptly when his gaze fell on Rebecca. "Are you feeling alright, Miss Holland?" he continued in the same worried tone. In the meantime, he approached her and, with his little medical lantern, checked both her eyes. 

"Call me Rebecca, please. And yes, I am right. Why wouldn't I be?" 

"Dominic told me how you got your sight back. I'd still like to check you out for a moment, though? To make sure everything is alright," Declan seemed to have recovered from his shock and had even begun his examination. 

For a few seconds, time stood still. So, she had an enemy, who, even if he was dead, I was sure it wasn't all about him.

"Her darkest nightmare? But the guy's dead..."  

"Exactly! Someone silenced him. And that's not all. He was also a werewolf" I didn't know why that didn't surprise me. I smelled someone like me around her, but in that frenzy of things and because I wanted at all costs to save her, it slipped my mind. 

"I could have sworn...now I wonder who had it in for him? And why?" It was more than clear that Tom was no mere werewolf. He knew things that maybe he shouldn't have and Rebecca was in the wrong place at the wrong time. "How did you learn that?"  

Declan took a step back. That's how I knew he'd done something dangerous. "What have you done, Declan?"
