Judy’s POV

Gavin returned to the villa later that night, and he looked exhausted. Nan and Erik had already left, Nan returning to Chester and Erik returning to his mother and sister. I ended up telling Gavin everything that I found out, even though he was practically half asleep.

When I told him about needing to bring Chuck to the Silver Crescent Pack to break the curse, he was suddenly very awake.

At first, as Nan and Erik told me, he didn’t want me to go to Alpha Jeremy’s territory and partake in this dangerous plan, but the more he thought about it, the more he realized that we might not have a choice in the matter. The curse on Irene seemed to be getting worse, and neither of us knew why.

Irene returned extremely late, and when she did return, she was completely drunk. I had to help her into bed and change her clothes. A drunk Irene is very unflattering. After that, Gavin finally agreed to my plan and contacted Alpha Jeremy this morning.

Once he explained the entire situation to Alpha Jeremy, he was happy to help us.

Now, we sat in Gavin’s private plane, heading towards France for the second time in a month, and my nerves were all over the place. We brought along a few Gammas to help us in case things escalated, including Erik. Nan ultimately decided that she couldn’t take another day off from her restaurant, so she stayed behind. I couldn’t blame her for that, and honestly, I wasn’t really expecting her to come along anyway.

“I feel a bit guilty for not telling Irene where we were going.”

Earlier, Gavin asked if she could stay home with Matt while we were gone for the night. She asked where we were going, and we had to lie to her.

“Yeah, I really didn’t love lying to her,” Gavin admitted. “But it’s for her own good. We must do this, or she might end up ruining herself even more than she already has.”

I lifted my head to look at him.

“Ruining herself?” I asked.

He let out a breath and nodded as he pulled out his phone.

“I found out where she was last night,” he said, unlocking his phone and then swiping his finger along the screen a few times before he found what he was looking for.

He turned his phone screen to face me, and my heart fell into my stomach at the news article headline.

I remembered how Erik said that the curse seemed to be getting worse and how Matt noticed that Irene had been unwell.

My stomach knotted; could her communication with Chuck be the reason?

“Is she really still in communication with Chuck?” I asked, my hands trembling on my lap.

“I'm not sure,” he said, shaking his head. “I had Taylor check her phone, but she deletes her messages. However, he can recover them. He’s working on that now. It’ll take some time.”

“That’s a serious invasion of privacy, Mr. Landry,” I said, teasingly, raising my brows.

The corner of his lips tipped into a smile.

“When it comes to my kids, nothing is off limits. I’ll do whatever is in my power to make sure they are safe.” Then he added, “All of them,” as he put his hand over the swell of my belly.
