“I can go by myself. Go ahead with your work.”
Devon was Chloe’s fiancé and a frequent caller at FC & Co. He was pretty much there every day, so much so that the employees would wonder if he were sick if he did not come.
He was even more familiar with Chloe’s office than his own.
Chloe’s secretary opened the door to Chloe’s office and let him in before heading for the VIP room.
Devon placed the bag he had brought on Chloe’s desk, then sat in her black swivel chair, looking at the mounds of unfinished paperwork on her desk.
He flipped open a binder and started going through it earnestly. Once he was done, he jotted “no problem” in pencil at the top of the first page, which was his usual practice when helping Chloe with her work.
He read through it and felt there was no issue with it, so Chloe only needed to sign it off.
Their companies worked closely together, so he knew how far each project had progressed, and vice versa. Chloe was also very familiar with the ins and outs of the Ormonds’ business.
The elders all joked that if the two were enemies that decided to go all out against each other, neither would gain the upper hand because they simply knew each other too well.
Luckily, the two families had reconciled in their parents’ generation and were no longer sworn rivals, which allowed both of them to be united in marriage.
Around ten minutes later, Chloe returned.
At the sight of Devon sitting in her chair, helping with her paperwork, she did not become unhappy. She merely walked over to him and remarked, “If your dad knew you came over and helped me with paperwork again, he’ll think you have too much free time and give you more work. Don’t come crying to me then.”
Devon set down the pen and walked around the desk to meet her halfway with a wide smile on his handsome face. “Don’t tell him. If he finds out, he will really make me slave away while he and my mom go gallivanting.
