Following behind Bennett, Yvonne finally returned to her alma mater after so many years.

The school hadn't changed much from her memory. The academic building was still stately and solemn, and on the athletic field, students were running and chanting slogans, their energy palpable.

Due to the anniversary celebration, the campus was more crowded than usual.

“Let’s go say hello to Mr. Reed first,” Bennett said to Yvonne.

Mr. Reed of the police academy was a former comrade-in-arms of Tobias.

Back when Bennett was dating the first Yvonne, he had often used visiting Mr. Reed as an excuse to see his girlfriend.

As Bennett and Yvonne slowly walked toward the administration building, they ran into April Martinez right at the entrance.

Because it was the anniversary, many distinguished alumni and city officials had been invited.

The city officials were being escorted by the school's leadership, while April was in charge of greeting the outstanding graduates.

April was talking with some former students when she turned her head and saw Bennett and Yvonne approaching.

“Bennett, what are you doing here? You didn't tell me you were coming.”

“Professor Martinez,” Bennett greeted her calmly.

“And this is?” April asked, looking at Yvonne with deliberate curiosity.

April had met Yvonne before. Even with the mask, April’s sharp police instincts should have allowed her to recognize her.

“My girlfriend, Yvonne Jones. You met her at the gathering last time,” Bennett reintroduced her, his tone flat.

“Oh, I must be getting old. My memory isn't what it used to be,” April said with an awkward laugh, then turned to Yvonne. “This must be your first time at the police academy, Ms. Jones. Welcome.”

Mr. Reed said cheerfully.

Everyone present knew that the Thompson and Walker families had been discussing a marriage alliance, but Mr. Bennett Thompson had broken up with Ms. Walker for a young actress, and the engagement had fallen through.

Some were already subtly glancing between Bennett and Mr. Walker. However, the two men involved acted as if nothing had happened, chatting and laughing naturally.

“Mr. Reed, hello. I’m Yvonne,” she said, greeting him respectfully.

She was no stranger to Mr. Reed; she had met him a few times when she was a student.

Mr. Reed had been a battle-hardened soldier before retiring from the military and joining the police force. He was known for being very straightforward.

“Your name is Yvonne? That’s a lovely name,” Mr. Reed said with a nod, glancing instinctively at Bennett.
