That morning, Mia carried Henry out of the car and handed him over to his teacher with a warning. "My son didn't go to sleep until past one last night. He's definitely going to fall asleep on his desk today. By lunchtime, he'll probably be too exhausted to even eat. Don't force him, otherwise he gets incredibly cranky."

Henry had a stubborn streak that even his own father couldn't tame.

If Andre slammed a hand on the table, Henry would kick him.

And when the kid cried, Andre still had to be the one to hold him.

Mia added, "If he's tired, just let him sleep. Don't worry, he won't let himself starve."

The teacher looked at the pristine, adorable little boy and asked, "...Mrs. Cedillo, what on earth did Henry do last night?"

Mia had only found out about her son's midnight escapades on the drive to school. "He snuck into our room, stole his dad's phone, and hid under his blankets to video call his godfathers. He probably didn't fall asleep until almost two."

Holding his mother's hand, Henry was already yawning.

One of Henry's little friends walked by and waved. "Hi, Tiger!"

Henry immediately let go of his mom's hand. "Mommy, I'm going to school with my friend now. Bye! You have to study hard and eat all your food at school too."

"Okay, Mommy knows. Don't take off your jacket if you get hot. Call me if you get hungry."

Mia watched her son walk into the building, waved goodbye to the teacher, and got back into the car. "Honey, I think I'm going to have to come back this afternoon."

Andre dropped his wife off at Havenbrook University and headed to the office. When Noah approached to give a report, Andre held up a hand to stop him. He pulled out his phone and made a call. "Which one of you idiots said 'fucking' and 'dissect' to my son last night?"

Noah immediately turned and slipped out of the room.

"Oh, looks like Mr. Cedillo is finally sober, his phone is charged, and he's ready for blood," Conner teased through the speaker, currently holding his own daughter.

That afternoon, as soon as Mia's classes finished, she ran to a fast-food restaurant and bought a burger.

Right at the start of her afternoon lecture, Henry had called her, his voice trembling with tears. "Mommy, I'm hungry!"
