***POV - Melaena
When the music starts and Damion begins to sing the words, my mouth drops open.
'I can't count the times I almost said what's on my mind But I didn't
And just the other day I wrote down all the things I'd say But I couldn't … I just couldn't
Baby, I know that you've been wonderin' Mm, so here goes nothin'
In case you didn't know Baby, I'm crazy 'bout you
And I would be lyin' if I said That I could live this life without you
Even though I don't tell you all the time
You had my heart a long, long time ago
In case you didn't know
The words describe everything, … just perfect if the song was meant for me, but it ain't. Suddenly my breathing becomes more urgent and rapid, my heart thumping away in my chest in rhythm with each drumbeat. I cross my legs to try and get the aching feeling down there under control, but it s not helping one bit. I seriously want the guy to plant himself in me and a small groan escapes my lips, turning all eyes at the table on me.
"He s pretty good, ain't he?" Axel asks, looking at me, his eyes teasing mine. For the second time tonight, I feel like strangling a friend.
'The way you look tonight
That second glass of wine That did it Mm
There was somethin' 'bout that kiss Girl, it did me in
Got me thinkin' … I'm thinkin' One of the things that I've been feelin'
Mm, it's time you hear 'em
In case you didn't know Baby, I'm crazy 'bout you
And I would be lyin' if I said That I could live this life without you
Even though I don't tell you all the time
You had my heart a long, long time ago
In case you didn't know
I swallow hard, listening to every word. He couldn t have picked a better song to describe our relationship at this stage … if only there was a relationship.
'You got all of me I belong to you Yeah, you're my everything
In case you didn't know I'm crazy 'bout you
And I would be lyin' if I said That I could live this life without you
Even though I don't tell you all the time
You had my heart a long, long time ago Yeah, you had my heart a long, long time ago
Mm In case you didn't know No, no In case you didn't know'
And suddenly I wish the song was for me … a secret message or something, a declaration of love, but it s nothing like that. He doesn t love me! I blink away the tears forming in my eyes cause I don t want the rest of my table to see it.
Chloe is jumping up and down, clapping her hands, and waving, between her pulling faces and giving me evil glares. Alejandro tries his best to protect me from her view and I m so glad he strolled into my life. The song ends and for a few seconds, I can only stare at the man on the stage, and even from this distance, his eyes are green as green can be.
"Ahem," Axel clears his throat drawing my attention away from the stage to look at him instead, "I m going to get a drink."
Alejandro gets up to go looking for Jesse that left our table a while back in search of a friend, leaving me alone with Kiara.
"You know that song was for you?"
"No, it wasn t."
"Melaena Blackburn!" She s talking so loud that the people at the other tables look over in our direction.
"Did you listen to the words of the song?" She leans forward and lowers her voice this time. I nod also leaning over the table now, not wanting our conversation to be overheard by the wrong ears.
"So?" Her eyes are daring me to say anything against her.
"So, it s perfect, if he was in love with me, but he s not."
"Open your freaking eyes! He kept looking at you the whole time."
"He was looking at Chloe." I pull out the last word sarcastically, but still making sure the table I m trying to avoid won t hear what we re talking about.
"Are you a bad man? Or a good man? Is it you Harry?" I know it s me speaking but my voice sounds like a Disney character. I look at myself in the mirror and thick vines start sprouting from my bra, growing longer and longer, circling around my body, gripping me, leaving me immobilized and then they spread up the walls. It s like one of those horror movies where the trees are alive, except I seem to be the tree. I m sure I m seeing green eyes looking through every opening between the roots, just staring. The eyes turn into worms, crawling up to the ceiling and down the dark roots.
"No, it's D." He puts the knife against the left side of my throat, I manage to scream but his hand covers my mouth preventing the sound to escape. The mask on his face is smiling at me with thick red lips, fueling the anger inside me to boil over. I force myself and manage to hit him with my elbow. He curses, as for a moment he loses his grip on me, causing me to almost fall to the ground.
"Fuck! You re hurt," he swears and pulls his finger along my neck, smearing the little trail of blood. The knife must have nibbed my skin when I fought with him. He puts the finger in his mouth.
"Are you a vampire clown?" I m speaking like Donald Duck now.
He starts laughing with those thick red lips and all the fat green worms are laughing with him.
"You brought this on yourself. Mel, you have to stop screwing other guys. You are mine." It s as if his mind is traveling to another place and time.
"Oh, screwing … Damion likes to kiss me." What am I babbling about? Screwing guys?
"You re so fucking pretty. I want to show you how a real man fucks." Then the hardness is back in his eyes while some of the worms are crawling closer to me. What s wrong with me?
"I m sorry, babe." His voice is now pitching sounds like the ones dolphins make on Discovery Channel. He throws the knife into a corner and drops me to the ground. I watch the worms crawl all over my tummy, and I smile cause they are rather cute. The worms are now everywhere. I still can t move, so I just look at the wiggly worms crawling all over my body. The ceiling turns into a black hole and I see the face of the devil, his green eyes burning me. I close my eyes and scream as hard as I can.
"Mel! MEL! Wake up sorellina!" Alejandro s voice spirals through my throbbing head and I force my eyes open, looking around bewildered and confused. I m lying on the bathroom floor. I blink my eyes slowly, trying to focus and I see Ren and Alejandro, but they seem hazy. Then they turn into freaky clowns with dark eyes. I let out another scream, but it sounds as if I m underwater.
Alejandro picks me up and walks out and puts me on a table. I m wasted and it takes way too much effort to move, so I just lay still. The worms came with us and are now crawling all over the bar.
"Mel, it s Axel. Listen to my voice. You re gonna be ok." He talks to me in a reassuring voice, his hands wiping against my throat. I m starting to feel as if I m going to throw up.
The voices around me stir up the panic I m trying to suppress inside me. I see Ren standing next to me, and then his face turns into that of a clown. I m for sure starting to hate clowns. Breath. I try to focus but suddenly all the faces around me look like the Joker and IT had a baby, gathering to kill me.
"NO! Get away from me!" I shout and hit them with my fists, but they won t go away. I keep on fighting.
'Damion … Damion … It s the only word rushing through my mind like a whisper, somehow it keeps me calm, but it seems so far away as if it s in the back of my head.
"Damion! DAMION!" I m now shouting it out needing him to rescue me from these psychotic white-faced creatures. I m struggling, but it s all in vain.
"It s ok, I m here!" Damion s voice drills into my brain, pushing all the other noises away. I feel strong arms around me, picking me up and I gasp for breath, the panic slowly subsiding.
"Damion … the clowns … gonna kill me." His familiar smell fills my nose, chasing the worms away.
"Shh, I m here baby. Just breathe." His voice is soft and husky. He has such a nice voice.
"Don t leave." This time I sound more like Mickey. I feel warm and safe and it feels as if I m flying. I cling to Damion as if my life depends on it. I m not letting go. Not with freaking killer clowns lurking around.
